To understand them, start by picturing common crepuscular rays that are seen any time that Sunlight pours though scattered clouds. Now although Sunlight indeed travels along straight lines, the projections of these lines onto the spherical sky are great circles. Therefore, the crepuscular rays from a setting (or rising) Sun will appear to re-converge on the other side of the sky.
At the anti-solar point 180° around from the Sun, they are referred to as anticrepuscular rays (...)".

M 31 and Hale Bopp.jpgTemporary Sky...61 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 13 Agosto 2006:"The Moon almost ruined this photograph. During late March and early April 1997, Comet Hale-Bopp passed nearly in front of the Andromeda Galaxy.
Here the Great Comet of 1997 and the Great Galaxy in Andromeda were photographed together on 1997 March 24th. The problem was the brightness of the Moon. The Moon was full that night and so bright that long exposures meant to capture the tails of Hale-Bopp and the disk of M31 would capture instead only moonlight reflected off the Earth's atmosphere. By the time the Moon would set, this opportunity would be gone. That's why this picture was taken during a total lunar eclipse".

Peccato che la NASA non abbia niente da dire...

OPP-SOL039-1M131654478EFF0544P2972M2M1-0.jpgXenomorph (1) - Sol 39165 visiteUna splendida (vorremmo proprio dirlo ma, per adesso, non abbiamo ancora gli elementi necessari e sufficienti per farlo) "Scoperta" del Dr Barca: un "piccolo rettile" (qualcosa che assomiglia davvero tantissimo ad una lucertolina) che sbuca da una roccia e guarda con aria curiosa, ma non spaventata, verso il Microscopic Imager del Rover Opportunity.
Non si tratta del primo caso di CILs ("Candidate Indigenous Lifeforms"), ma senz'altro si tratta di un caso meritevole di attenzione.
Una precisazione (che intende prevenire quello che ci potrebbero dire molti Lettori): siamo consapevoli della umana tendenza a ricondurre elementi e forme ignoti/e ad elementi e forme noti/e.
E' proprio per questo motivo, infatti, che noi viaggiamo sui binari della prudenza estrema e del pragmatismo più radicale: perchè noi siamo consapevoli che molte (potenziali) "Scoperte" che riteniamo di aver fatto - come questa e come tante altre simili che trovate nelle nostre pagine - potrebbero rivelarsi, in futuro, "errori&sviste".
