ZE-I-Viking1-vl1_11d128.jpgFrom the "Viking Archive" - Viking 1: is this the "true" color of Mars?182 visitePrima dell'arrivo dei Viking, i luoghi di discesa erano stati (ovviamente) già selezionati - nulla poteva essere improvvisato! - ma, una volta visionate le immagini orbitali, il Controllo Missione decise di cambiare tutto. La sicurezza dei Landers era la priorità assoluta: luoghi quali le caldere del Monte Olimpo ed il margine di uno dei canali della Valles Marineris erano obbiettivi fantastici e suggestivi, ma troppo pericolosi. Si dovette quindi optare per siti meno affascinanti, ma più accessibili (almeno in teoria).
Il 20 Luglio 1976 il Viking Lander 1 discese dolcemente in un'area pianeggiante, ad Ovest della Pianura di Chrise (47,8° lat. Nord e 22,5° long. Ovest). Questo sito, dall'orbita, appariva come una zona simile ai "mari" della Luna: liscio, con qualche leggero rilievo sparso ed abbastanza povero di crateri (un'insidia enorme per qualsiasi navicella!). Il 7 di Agosto, poi, il Viking Lander 2 discese nella Pianura di Utopia (48° lat. Nord e 225,6° long. Ovest).

The Beagle 2 lander will look for signatures of life on Mars, whether long-dead or still-living, by measuring the ratio of two different types of carbon in the rocks. Biological processes on Earth favour the lighter isotope of carbon, carbon-12, over the heavier carbon-13. Hence, a high carbon-12 to carbon-13 ratio is taken as evidence of life and has been found in rocks up to 4 billion years old, even where geological processing has occurred. The hope is that the same occurred on Mars.

ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-Z-Lizard.jpgHey: look at me!!!1417 visiteUn frame davvero sbalorditivo: forse, su Marte come sulla Terra, non tutto quello che "sembra" qualcosa, poi "è" effettivamente "quel" qualcosa. Gli errori, le cantonate e le sviste, in questo campo, sono all'ordine del giorno. Ma quello che viene ripreso in questo frame ci lascia davvero senza parole. Noi vediamo una strana "creatura" - simile ad un piccolo rettile... - che si erge su quelle che sembrano essere un paio di zampe e che ci guarda (anzi: che guarda il Rover). Illusione ottica? Desiderio di vedere a tutti in costi? O forse si tratta di una semplice "prova" del fatto che esistono su Marte delle forme di vita indigene, ben più evolute e complesse dei "batteri dormienti" di cui parlano gli Scienziati?
Una (possibile) risposta, l'avete davanti agli occhi: essa Vi guarda; Voi la vedete?!?

In the 1970s, large dish antennas at 3 radio observatories (Jodrell Bank, MPIfR and Parkes Obs.ry), were used to do just that - the data were combined to map the entire sky. Near this frequency, cosmic radio waves are generated by high energy electrons spiraling along magnetic fields. In the resulting false color image, the galactic plane runs horizontally through the center, but NO stars are visible. Instead, many of the bright sources near the plane are distant Pulsars, Star Forming Regions and Supernova Remnants, while the grand looping structures are pieces of bubbles blown by local stellar activity. External galaxies, like Centaurus A, located above the plane to the right of center, and the Large Magellanic Cloud (below and right) also shine in the Radio Sky".

Dunque è sufficiente il treno di ruotine del Rover per intaccare profondamente il suolo di Meridiani Planum mentre l'impatto - non frenato!!! - di un rottame pesante qualche quintale scava un cratere di soli 5/10 cm di profondità...
A noi sembra che qualcosa non quadri proprio a perfezione in questo scenario...

Ho visto il Dolore rigare le guance di chi è rimasto, quando altri se ne sono andati.
Ho visto il Dolore segnare il passo, scomposto, di guerrieri che avanzavano vittoriosi, mentre altri erano in fuga.
Ho visto il Dolore negli occhi di chi ho amato e di chi amo: senza risposte, senza scopo e, in fondo, senza fine.
Ed in questa Vita ed in questo Mondo, camminando lungo strade lastricate di buone intenzioni e di vane parole, ho capito che è il Dolore l'elemento che ci accomuna e che ci rende tutti Fratelli.
Ma è lo stesso Dolore l'elemento che ci divide.
Siamo tutti soli, quando il Dolore è con noi, ed il Dolore - anche se l'umana ipocrisia finge di ignorarlo... - non si può condividere.
Il cordoglio degli "altri", non lo allevia. Mai.
Il Dolore è solo di colui che soffre.
