OPP-SOL707-1N190954573EFF64KSP1740R0M1.jpgFreedom of Information or Freedom of Cancellation?!?
(1 voti)

Saturn-PIA07678.jpgNeon-lights in the night of Saturn76 visiteOriginal caption:"Like a rope of brilliant neon, Saturn's Rings outshine everything else in this night side view, while the sunlit southern face of the Rings reflects a dim glow onto the atmosphere below. When viewed nearly edge-on, the Rings often appear very bright.
Epimetheus and Janus are mere specks to the left of the Ring edge (and Epimetheus being the outermost of the pair).
The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on Dec. 17, 2005, at a distance of approximately 2,7 MKM (such as about 1,7 MMs) from Saturn and at a Sun-Saturn-spacecraft angle of 75°. The image scale is about 164 Km (roughly 102 miles) per pixel". (1 voti)

APOLLO 14 AS 14 67-9369.jpgAS 14-67-9369 - Cold Cathode Ion Gauge and Suprathermal Ion Detector Experiment101 visiteOriginal caption:"117:20:27 MT. This photo shows the Cold Cathode Ion Gauge (CCIG) and the Suprathermal Ion Detection Experiment (SIDE). The SIDE is the large box while the CCIG is the smaller instrument next to it. There is a great deal of dirt on the north face of the SIDE.
Because this face receives little direct sunlight, the dirt will have little effect on the internal temperature of the instrument.
Dirt on the East or West faces and on the top would increase the amount of sunlight that the instrument would absorb during the course of a Lunar Day and, therefore, would lead to a higher than optimal internal temperature". (1 voti)

APOLLO 11 AS 11-40-5930 HR-01.jpgAS 11-40-5930 - Armstrong's shadow... (HR)140 visiteOriginal caption:"110:55:49 MT. Neil has backed away from the LM to take a panorama. This down-Sun shows the bright halo - possibly a diffraction effect - that appeared around the shadow of Neil's helmet. Note, also, how washed out the scene is along the line of his shadow. This effect is due to the fact that, in this direction, all of the shadows - excepting only those cast by objects in the immediate foreground - are hidden by the objects that cast them. In addition, there are also strong reflections off the soil particles which also contribute to the visual washout". (1 voti)
