Asteroids_from_HST-00.jpg
Asteroids_from_HST-00.jpgAsteroids, from HST (1)72 visiteCaption NASA originale da "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 18 Aprile 2005:"Rocks from space hit Earth every day. The larger the rock, though, the less often Earth is struck. Many kilograms of space dust pitter to Earth daily. Larger bits appear initially as a bright meteor. Baseball-sized rocks and ice-balls streak through our atmosphere daily, most evaporating quickly to nothing. Significant threats do exist for rocks near 100 meters in diameter, which strike the Earth roughly every 1000 years. An object this size could cause significant tsunamis were it to strike an ocean, potentially devastating even distant shores. A collision with a Massive asteroid, over 1 Km across, is more rare, occurring typically millions of years apart, but could have truly global consequences". 55555

Image034-51-Plates4B.jpgBlue Flares and the Invisible Crater: Panorama and Image from Above (1)227 visitePassi per il Weird Crater, che è piccolo e facile da dissimulare, ma il Cone Crater è un "gigante" del diametro di almeno 330 metri e profondo quasi 100: significa 2 volte e 1/2 il famoso cratere marziano Endurance, ripreso da Opportunity per oltre 6 mesi!
E allora?

Pandora-PIA06618~0.jpg
Pandora-PIA06618~0.jpgPandora at the edge of the Rings67 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Pandora is seen in this dramatic view, orbiting just beyond the outer edge of Saturn's F-Ring. Several bright areas are visible within the F-Ring. In the main Rings, the Keeler gap and the Encke gap - with a bright ringlet - are also visible. Pandora is 84 Km (approx. 52 miles) across. The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on Feb. 18, 2005, at a distance of approximately 1,2 MKM (approx. 746.000 miles) from Pandora and at a Sun-Pandora-spacecraft angle of 108°. The image scale is 7 Km per pixel".55555

OPP-SOL101-1N137173017EFF2019P1560L0M1.jpgClouds and a lonely star-like object in the sky - Sol 10176 visiteSottili nuvole stratiformi intaccano con leggerezza il quieto cielo di Marte. In alto, quasi all'angolo superiore Dx del frame, uno star-like object (o un difetto dell'immagine?).
Strano.

Saturn-tilted.jpg
Saturn-tilted.jpgTilted Saturn59 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Saturn's whirling vortices and feathery cloud bands are the signs of a restless world. Cassini captured this arresting view of the giant planet scored by bold shadows cast by the rings. The rings are seen edge-on in this dramatic, artfully tilted scene.
The image was taken with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on March 6, 2005, at a distance of approx. 1,7 MKM (1 MMs) from Saturn through a filter sensitive to wavelengths of infrared light centered at 750 nnmts. The image scale is 10 Km per pixel".

Rhea~0.jpg
Rhea~0.jpgRhea (false colors)69 visiteCaption NASA originale:"This false-color picture of Saturn's moon Rhea from Cassini enhances slight differences in natural color across the moon's face. The extreme north and south latitudes have a notable difference in hue compared to the mid-latitudes.
This view of Rhea is a composite of images taken using filters sensitive to green (centered at 568 nnmts) and infrared light (2 infrared filters, centered at 752 and 930 nnmts) and has been processed to accentuate subtle color differences.
The image was taken with the Cassini spacecraft narrow angle-camera on Feb. 18, 2005, at a distance of approximately 890.000 Km from Rhea and at a Sun-Rhea-spacecraft phase angle of 116°. The image scale is 5 Km per pixel".

ZZ-The Sun.jpgAutumnal Equinox 199460 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 20 Marzo 2005:"Today, the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading North, marking the Vernal Equinox - such as the 1st day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the south. Equinox means equal night and with the Sun on the celestial equator, Earthlings will experience 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. For those in the Northern Hemisphere, the days will continue to grow longer with the Sun marching higher in the sky as Summer approaches. A few weeks after the northern Autumnal Equinox of 1994, the Crew of the Shuttle Endeavor recorded this image of the Sun poised above the Earth's limb. Glare illuminates Endeavor's vertical tail (pointing toward the Earth) along with radar equipment in the payload bay. The space shuttle is expected to return to flight later this year with the launch of STS-114".55555
