Charlie Duke offers this description of the scene: "This picture shows the mortar package with the red flag extended and it's facing off parallel to the geophone line. You can't really see the geophone line in the background, but you can see where John walked. That's basically his footprints along the geophone line and it trends off to the northwest. And you can see the spaghetti cable that goes back to the Central Station - not only for the data but also for the power. The magnetometer's in the far background, just over the mortar package. You can see the RTG and Central Station."

APOLLO 16 AS 16 114-18419.jpgAS 16-114-18419 - Moonscape with craters (2)89 visiteDue annotazioni, per questo secondo frame della serie: la prima riguarda una certa somiglianza fra questo cratere (e le relative istatanee) ed il cratere Surveyor, ripreso innumerevoli volte dall'equipaggio dell'Apollo 12; la seconda (più intrigante...) attiene un piccolo (ma importante) dettaglio: se guardate attentamente il margine superiore del cratere, alla Vostra Dx, quasi a ridosso dell'orizzonte, noterete il medesimo difetto che avevamo riscontrato nel frame as 16-111-18036: c'è un "taglio" netto dell'immagine. Forse è proprio un difetto causato da quello che uno dei Curatori dell'Apollo Space Catalog chiama "heavy processing". O forse è qualcosa di completamente diverso e di cui noi (e magari anche lui) ignoriamo completamente.
