Da questo angolo visuale, la struttura che ci troviamo davanti non sembra davvero un'opera della Natura: la simmetria esistente fra i due lati corti di questa sorta di tumulo di pietra sembra evidente e tale configurazione non deve essere sfuggita neppure ai due astronauti (Bean e Conrad) i quali, dopo essersi ulteriormente avvicinati, scatteranno - da svariati angoli visuali e da diverse distanze - un numero davvero elevato di fotografie...

Note the pull rings on the edge closest to Al. These pull rings are used to release "pip pins" with which some pieces of equipment are attached to the RTG pallet. The light-colored piece of gear that is attached to the part of the RTG pallet that is on top in this picture is the SIDE (Suprathermal Ion Detection Experiment). Note the deployment rail and pulleys extending out from the SEQ bay above the upper ends of the lanyards. The distinctive ring-shaped top of the fuel cask can be seen behind the left-hand SEQ bay door. The landing radar is under the SEQ Bay directly beneath the partition separating the 2 ALSEP compartments. The shield that protects the radar from descent engine exhaust is farther to the right. Cerchiatura Rossa: una Lucina Blu che ci ricorda, davvero molto da vicino, la Blue Flare che apparve in alcuni (storici) frames Apollo 14. Siamo in attesa di ricevere il frame originale e non compresso per verificare un pò meglio ma, già da adesso, ci sentiamo di poter dire che quello Star-like Object non sembra un photo-artifact. E se non lo fosse, allora dovremmo chiederci "chi" o "che cosa" sta osservando quello che stanno facendo i Ragazzi dell'Intrepid...

A good picture of Alan Bean, who is still photographing the plus-Y footpad with the TV camera in the background. Notice the line of footprints that Pete Conrad made when he came over from the location of the 4 o'clock pan. This photo gives an impresssion of the way the ground was swept by the engine exhaust.
This is particularly evident - perhaps because of lighting - along a line from the engine bell (off-image to the left) through the probe at the left edge to the lower right corner. (...) . Scan courtesy NASA Johnson".

Cerchiatura Verde (Dx): un boulder a forma tronco-colonnare di modeste dimensioni (stimiamo tra i 40 ed i 50 cm);
Cerchiatura Rossa: apparentemente si tratta di una roccia (sempre dalla forma curiosa - diremmo a "tettoia spiovente") con "foro" che ci ricorda tantissimo un'altra roccia bucata rinvenuta su Marte, nei primissimi Soles di Spirit (vedere le immagini ed i detail mgnf proposti da Fabio Italiano nella Sezione "Mars in Colors").
Potrebbe anche trattarsi, tuttavia, di una illusione ottica determinata dall'immagine sfuocata (come Conrad stesso ammette, a causa di un suo errore) oppure di un'altra piccola pietra la quale, rispetto all'angolo di ripresa, si superimpone alla roccia a tettoia e, sempre grazie alla sfuocatura, ci appare come non come oggetto indipendente, bensì come dettaglio (curioso) del corpo maggiore più lontano.
Forse quest'ultima interpretazione è da preferirsi.

Cerchiatura Verde: una bizzarra roccia dalla forma appuntita che spicca - diremmo nettamente - all'estrema Sx del frame. Curioso che non ci sìano (e, se ci sono, non le abbiamo trovate) altre immagini di questo rilievo.

APOLLO 12 AS 12-48-7100.jpgAS 12-48-7100 - Surveyor III and the LM in the distance143 visiteSurveyor III and the LM. The TV camera is the vertical cylinder to the right of the solar-panel mast and the scoop can be seen extended out to the right. The Surveyor landed on a slope and bounced and slid a short way before coming to rest. Visual evidence comes from the left-hand footpad, which is dug into the soil, and the foreground footpad, which made two distinct imprints nearer us before coming to rest.
