The Floor of the Caldera - such as the elliptical depression at the Summit of the Volcano - has a few windblown Ripples on it. The Ripples and thick Dust Mantle, together with the small impact craters on its Surface, indicate that the Volcano erupted some time ago, but there has been no activity at this Volcano in geologically recent times. This image covers an area approx. 3 Km wide by 6,8 Km (approx. 1,9 mi by 4,2 mi). The Volcano is located near 1,6° South Lat. and 105,7° West Long.; sunlight illuminates the scene from the left".

This year, much more of the North Polar Cap has sublimed away than has been evident in previous Northern Summers going back to 1999, when MGS began the Mapping Phase of the mission. This MGS-MOC image shows a nearly ice-free view of Layers exposed by erosion in the North Polar Region. The light-toned patches are remnants of water ice frost.
The Layers are generally considered by the Mars scientific community to be record of past depositions of ice and dust. This picture is located near 82,5 North, 118,6 West and covers an area about 3 by 10 Km (approx. 1,9 by 6,2 miles). Utopia_Planitia-Smoke-C-M0202863-PCF-LXTT.jpgControversial Surface Feature in Utopia Planitia (False Colors; credits: Lunar Explorer Italia)65 visiteAlcuni "crack" che caratterizzano la porzione superiore del margine interno (Inner Rim) di questo cratere senza nome SEMBRANO presentare delle tracce di "affumicamento" (portate l'immagine a schermo pieno e poi verificate Voi stessi); tuttavia, prima di parlare di "fumi" che emergono dal sottosuolo - il che pu anche essere - bisognerebbe escludere tutte le altre possibilit (ivi incluso il vizio di visione - il frame, a dire il vero, non un granch in quanto a risoluzione e definizione - ed il "trascinamento" di polveri sottili a seguito di azioni eoliche - un'azione che spesso sfocia nella produzione di "dust streaks" i quali, ve detto, assomigliano terribilmente - specie se guardati da grande distanza (ivi: oltre 380 Km) - alle tracce di affumicamento).
Ma questa esclusione, usando SOLO questo frame, impossibile farla e quindi...restiamo dubitativi.
Il che significa, per farla breve, che FORSE si tratta effettivamente di tracce di fumo...e FORSE no.MareKromium     (8 voti)

Chaotic_Terrain-Aram_Chaos-S0100839-PCF-LXTT-00.jpgUnusual Surface Features in Aram Chaos (CTX Frame - False Colors)69 visiteIl "punto interrogativo" indica - come da commento/segnalazione di un nostro Amico Lettore (il Sig. Pietro Camin) - un dettaglio superficiale apparentemente anomalo la cui forma ricorda, sebbene vagamente, quella di un triangolo isoscele che giace coricato su un fianco (in accordo, come ovvio, al punto di vista dell'Osservatore).
Si tratta, forse, di una "Struttura Artificiale"?
Ebbene la risposta ad un simile interrogativo e sulla base di un frame orbitale ottenuto da oltre 300 Km di altitudine (lo sapete bene) impossibile (e, questo ci teniamo a sottolinearlo, solo chi tira brutalmente ad indovinare - o specula sulla credulit popolare - potrebbe rispondere manifestando certezze a tal riguardo).
Tuttavia, dato che il Sig. Camin ha legittimamente manifestato un dubbio il quale, a ben guardare, si "posiziona" (anche fisicamente) su una Regione (quella di Aram Chaos) che in s ricca di Rilievi Superficiali "curiosi", abbiamo deciso di fare un piccolo sforzo investigativo e quindi proporre e proporVi, in totale umilt e senza pretesa alcuna di fornire "certezze", NON UNO, MA ALTRI TRE possibili Rilievi Superficiali Anomali presenti nei pressi del rilivo segnalato dal Sig. Pietro Camin (che ringraziamo per lo spunto).

This type of trough forms through the collapse of surface materials into the subsurface and often begins as a series of individual pit craters. Over time, continued collapse increases the diameter of individual pits until finally, adjacent pits merge to form a trough such as the one captured in this image. The deep shadowed area is caused in part by an overhang; layered rock beneath this overhang is less resistant to erosion, and thus has retreated tens of meters backward, beneath the overhang. A person could walk up inside this "cave" formed by the overhanging layered material".

Fienga - Lunexit Team)64 visiteCaption NASA:"What causes the black dots on dunes on Mars? As spring dawned on the Northern Hemisphere of Mars in 2004, dunes of sand near the Poles begin to defrost. Thinner regions of ice typically thaw first revealing sand whose darkness soaks in sunlight and accelerates the thaw.
The process might involve sandy jets exploding through the thinning ice. By Summer, the spots expanded to encompass the entire dunes that were then completely thawed and dark. The carbon dioxide and water ice actually sublime in the thin atmosphere directly to gas. Taken in mid-July, the above image shows a field of spotted polar dunes spanning about 3 Km near the Martian North Pole.
