L'intera sequenza, per Vostra informazione, si svolge su uno spazio di 911 Km (infatti in questo frame la Sonda Cassini/Huygens si trova a 9.062.781 Km da Saturno; al momento del "contatto" è a 9.062.214 e nel frame dopo a 9.061.870 Km).

A quiescent prominence typically lasts about a month and may erupt in a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) expelling hot gas into the Solar System. Although very hot, prominences typically appear dark when viewed against the Sun, since they are slightly cooler than the surface. Titania_s Limb-V2-PIA01978_modest.jpgTitania's limb (3)68 visiteIl bordo di Titania, semi-immerso nell'oscurità, costituisce un target molto suggestivo da ammirare ed inoltre, proprio grazie ai giochi di luce ed ombra che si formano, risulta leggermente più facile percepire - anche se, a volte, in maniera ingannevole - la "profondità" o il "rilievo" di alcuni dettagli superficiali. Guardate, infatti, il bordo superiore di Titania e noterete, ad ore 1 dell'immagine, una chiara protuberanza di forma "conica". Un dettaglio curioso e suggestivo, ancora una volta. Di che cosa si tratta? Forse di una "spire", simile a quelle che abbiamo visto sulla Luna . O forse qualcosa di completamente diverso...

(1)68 visiteIl tempo, come dice il titolo di questa immagine, sta passando (siamo giunti al Sol 277) e Spirit rimane fermo a guardarsi attorno. Abbiamo già manifestato le nostre perplessità relative ad una ulteriore avanzata/ascesa del Rover su per le colline, ma anche un arresto così prolungato ci lascia alquanto spiazzati. Non c'è fretta, si dirà, e noi possiamo anche essere d'accordo.
Ma il Rover non può rimanere bloccato troppo a lungo (allora si che le sue forti, ma pur sempre delicate, giunture potrebbero - per così dire... - intorpidirsi ed iniziare a degradare, rovinandosi. Dunque la domanda rimane davanti a noi (come le insidie del futuro cammino di Spirit), senza risposta: da che parte si va?

This part of the asteroid's surface, like many others, appears vaguely "sculptured" due to its low, elongated ridges and depressions with seemingly consistent orientations. Some of the low spots also contain accumulations of smooth, pond-like materials. Neither the surface sculpturing nor the pond-like materials are well understood, and both will be investigated in detail using even higher-resolution images from NEAR Shoemaker's low passes over Eros in early 2001. The whole scene is about 1 Km across.

Asteroids-Annefrank_Asteroid-PIA02885_modest.jpgAsteroid Annefrank from Stardust68 visiteAsteroid Annefrank is seen as irregularly shaped, cratered body in an image taken by NASA's Stardust spacecraft during a Nov. 2 flyby of the asteroid.
Stardust flew within about 3.300 Km (about 2.050 miles) of the asteroid as a rehearsal for the spacecraft's encounter with its primary target, comet Wild 2, in January 2004. The camera's resolution was sufficient to show that Annefrank is about 8 Km (5 miles) in length, twice the predicted size from Earth-based observations. The surface reflects about 0,1 to 0,2% of sunlight, slightly less than anticipated. A few craters that are hundreds of meters across can be seen. The straight edge in the right side of the image may be an artifact of processing.
