Volcanic_Features-Collapse_Pit_Chain-MGS.JPGCollapse Pit-Chain in Tharsis Region (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)80 visiteCaption NASA originale:"This MGS-MOC image shows a chain of collapse pits on a dust-mantled, lava-covered plain North-East of Ascraeus Mons (one of the giant volcanoes located in the Tharsis Region of Mars).
Pit chains are associated with collapse which may be driven by several processes including, but not limited to, crustal extension owing to tectonic processes and the collapse of the roof of a lava tube".

Location near: 14,8° North Lat. and 99,1° West Long.
Image width: ~3 Km (~1,9 mi)

8-Venus_from_Venus_Express-VIRTIS_COB05_vis_397_b.jpgVenus, from Venus Express (natural colors)80 visiteCaption ESA originale:"Views of the Southern Hemisphere of Venus in visible and ultraviolet light show interesting atmospheric stripe-like structures.
Spotted for the first time by Mariner 10 in the 1970s, they may be due to the presence of dust and aerosols in the atmosphere, but their true nature is still unexplained. "Venus Express has the tools to investigate these structures in detail. Studies have already begun to dig into the properties of the complex wind fields on Venus, to understand the atmospheric dynamics on local and global scales".

Venus Express also made use for the first time ever from orbit of the so-called 'infrared windows' present in the atmosphere of Venus – if observed at certain wavelengths, it is possible to detect thermal radiation leaking from the deepest atmospheric layers, revealing what lies beneath the dense cloud curtain situated at about 60 Km altitude".

SOU-SOL015-marspath_yogi_rov.jpgYogi and Soujourner - Sol 1580 visiteCaption NASA originale:"The Soujourner Rover is taking its Alpha Proton X-Ray Spectrometer measurement.
It clearly shows the "two-toned" surface of this large rock.
The nature of this color difference is not known, however.
It might consist of wind-blown dust accumulated on the surface (the rock is leaning into the prevailing wind) or might be evidence of a break from a larger boulder as it was deposited in the ancient flood that scoured this area".

35-Lomonosov Crater-AMI_EAE3_001856_00042_00038.jpgLomonosov Crater80 visiteCaption ESA originale:"This image, taken by the Advanced Moon Imaging Experiment (AMIE) on board ESA’s SMART-1 spacecraft, shows crater Lomonosov, on the Moon’s Far (or "Dark") Side.
AMIE obtained the image on 30 January 2006 from a distance of about 2100 Km from the surface, with a ground resolution of 190 mt per pixel. The imaged area is centred at a Latitude of 27,8º North and a Longitude of 98,6º East.

Crater Lomonosov is a nice example for a large crater (92 Km of diameter) which was filled by lava after the impact, thus exhibiting a flat floor. The terraced walls indicate 'slumping', that is sliding of the rocks downwards due to gravity after the end of the impact. The small craters inside Lomonosov are the result of impacts into this lava floor which happened after the formation of Lomonosov".

After two weeks of manoeuvres started on 19 June and concluded on 2 July 2006, the impact is now set to occur on the Near Side and most probably at 05:41 UT (such as 07:41 Central Europe Standard Time) on 3 September 2006".
