The Rover Team anticipates that the north-facing slopes of McCool Hill should sufficiently tilt the Rover's solar panels toward the Sun to allow Spirit to survive the winter.
The view covers about 230° of terrain around the Rover. Spirit's PanCam took 72 separate images of this scene with 4 different filters. This is an approximately true-color rendering using the Pancam's 75-, 535- and 432-nanometer filters. Image-to-image seams have been eliminated from the sky portion of the mosaic to better simulate the vista a person standing on Mars would see.
Cerchiatura Verde: non è un semplice difetto dell'incollatura fra le diverse fotografie. C'è effettivamente qualcosa di sfumato (ed in parte cancellato, ci sembra), quasi sul ciglio di McCool Hill.

Skylab, pictured above, was visited 3 times by NASA Astronauts who sometimes stayed as long as two and a half months. Many scientific tests were performed on Skylab, including astronomical observations in ultraviolet and X-ray light. Some of these observations yielded valuable information about Comet Kohoutek, our Sun and about the mysterious X-ray Background Radiation that (apparently) comes from all over the sky.
Skylab fell back to Earth on July, 11, 1979".

24-Mare Humorum-1.jpgMare Humorum (1)84 visiteThis sequence of images, taken by the advanced Moon Imaging Experiment (AMIE) on board ESA's SMART-1 spacecraft, shows an area on the near side of the Moon, at the edge of the Mare Humorum basin.
AMIE obtained these raw images on January, 13th, 2006 from a distance ranging between 1031 and 1107 Km from the surface, with a ground resolution between 93 and 100 mt per pixel.
The imaged area is located at Longitude 45,7º West and Latitude between 30,5º and 24,5º South. The field of view of each single image is about 50 Km.

Avremmo voluto battezzare quindi questo rilievo come "Turtle Rock", ma poi ci siamo ricordati che già ne esiste uno sulla Luna ed un altro su Marte e quindi...Troppo "tartarughe".
Shell-Rock allora: la roccia-guscio. Va bene lo stesso, non credete?!?...

OPP-SOL270-1F152156148EFF37CDP1220L0M1.jpgMartian "Trapdoor" and VERY strange surface features... - Sol 27084 visiteNella Cerchiatura Gialla, operata dal Dr Barca, una splendida (e davvero incredibile, nella sua chiarezza e definizione) "Botola Marziana" - solo la NASA sembra non aver notato questi tipo di rilievo e la cosa, dopo più di due anni di esplorazione del Pianeta Rosso, secondo noi ha dell'assurdo più che altro (vorremmo dire "volontà di non vedere", ma lasciamo alla NASA il beneficio del dubbio e la possibilità che la loro non sia malafede, ma semplice incompetenza).
Nella Cerchiatura Nera, una serie di rilievi superficiali davvero curiosi e, tra essi - nell'ellisse -, forse anche un "Over-Tunnel".

(detail mgnf) - Sol 88584 visiteEd ecco, ancora una volta, il "Menhir": il pragmatismo ci impone di parlare di un possibile "Ejecta Boulder"; l'ombra - alquanto innaturale - che il macigno proietta tutto intorno a sè ci fa tuttavia pensare ad una roccia-guscio di dimensioni davvero notevoli.
E non è tutto!...

The imaged area is centred at a Long. of 23,9º East, close to the Moon Equator, at 1,7º North Latitude.
The area is close to crater Moltke (outside the field of view of this image) in the Mare Tranquilitatis Region. The arrow shows the Landing Site of Apollo 11, where the first men from Earth set foot on another object in our Solar System, on 20 July 1969. The two prominent craters nearby are named after two of the Apollo 11 Astronauts. The first man on the Moon, Armstrong, has a crater named after him outside the field of this image".
