Lakshmi Planum is an elevated plateau that is bounded on all sides by mountain chains. Here, the Danu mountains have an angular fractured appearance. Chasms slice diagonally across the mountains in the lower left (southwest) corner of the image. Because of the steep slopes and the local relief of the mountains of several kilometers, these fault-bounded troughs appear to zig-zag through the mountains when, in fact, they are probably straight if viewed from above. The radar view provides a perspective that would place the viewer's eye to the right, 27° above the horizon. Thus, slopes facing to the right can be seen completely, though dark, and slopes facing away to the left appear shortened, often seen only as thin bright lines. In the center of the image is a low volcanic dome 20 Km in diameter. This type of volcanic feature frequently occurs on the low plains. This dome on the edge of Lakshmi is deformed and faulted where it has been affected by the forces that created the Danu mountains".

This Magellan radar image is centered about 25,4° south latitude and 308° east longitude in the southwestern Navka Region of Venus. The image shows a 17,4 Km (approx. 10,8 mile) diameter volcanic dome on the plains. The dome is approximately 1,86 Km (approx. 1,2 mile) in height and it has a slope of about 23°. The northwest and northeast flanks of the dome have collapsed to form landslides that have deposited debris on the plains. The image shows an area 110 Km (approx. 68 miles) across and 100 Km (approx. 62 miles) in length".

Siamo giunti al 12mo Sol di permanenza su Marte ed è arrivato il momento di 'mettersi in marcia'. Il 'nido' è abbandonato; le prime peregrinazioni di Opportunity saranno all'interno dell'Eagle Crater e ci riserveranno subito qualche interessante sorpresa...

Goal 5, examined during the Eagle Crater soil survey, is a wind-rippled spot on the upper part of the Crater which the Miniature Thermal Emission Spectrometer shows is higher in Hematite content compared to other soils within the crater. The light soil in the center of the image is referred to as "Lanikai" - an inspiration from the white sand beaches of Hawaii. The dark soil is referred to as "Punaluu" after the black sand Hawaiian beaches".

(1)84 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Galaxies aren't the only objects filling up the view of NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer. Since its launch in 2003, the space telescope (originally designed to observe galaxies across the universe in ultraviolet light) has discovered a festive sky blinking with flaring and erupting stars, as well as streaking asteroids, satellites and space debris. One such streaking object - possibly an Earth-orbiting satellite - can be seen here flying across the telescope's sight.
This probable satellite appears during the last 5' of a 13,5' observation. It looks elongated because each picture frame containing the moving object is 19" long. Faint ghost images on either side of the source are detector artifacts caused by the object's extreme brightness. These 'Bonus Objects' are being collected in to Public Catalogues for other Astronomers to study".
Bonus Objects. Un nuovo modo di classificare gli UFO? Un frame intrigante ed un commento ufficiale asciutto, ma possibilista: qualcosa si muove?!?

Nota: Seneca non era un 'guerrafondaio' nè un assertore del 'Diritto delle Armi', come questa massima (ex "Hercul. Fur." - Atto II, Sc. I, Vers. 29) può far pensare. Egli, in realtà , si limitò a stigmatizzare che, per gli scellerati ed i tiranni, la Legge - ergo anche la Giustizia e l'Equilibrio - è fondata nella forza bruta (e quindi nella paura), mentre per i saggi (ahimè pochi, anche ai suoi tempi...) essa è posta nella capacità di usare la ragione.

OPP-SOL562-1N178076672EFF5900P1875R0M1.jpg360° Panorama (2) - Sol 56284 visiteAnche in questo (bellissimo) secondo frame, potete notare come questi outcrops - che a noi piace chiamare come "Pavimenti di Marte" - sìano sostanzialmente "piatti", e quindi profondamente differenti dagli altri outcrops che invece caratterizzano l'area di Gusev Crater (Spirit). A ben guardare, dopo aver anche esaminato con questa specifica ottica ed in questa particolare direzione i frames Viking e Pathfinder, i Martian Paving ci sembrano essere proprio (ed almeno sino al prossimo "landing" di una qualche Sonda USA od Europea) una prerogativa esclusiva della Regione di Meridiani Planitia.

M-042-97.jpgM 42 (in "natural colors")84 visite"...Penso che sia difficile risolvere i problemi di una Nazione o, come oggi sento, del Mondo intero, standosene seduti intorno ad un tavolo, mangiando, bevendo, scambiandosi pacche sulle spalle e poi litigando un pò...Ed è difficile pensare di essere in grado di fare pulizia in una Città od in una Nazione, quando chi dovrebbe "mondare" non è neppure capace di lavarsi le mani...
D'altro canto è facile, restando fuori dalla mischia, sputare sentenze e fare filosofia sulla pelle di chi soffre, di chi non ha soldi per mangiare nè medicine per curarsi.
E' facile parlare di "opportunità " per chi, nella Vita, può solo scegliere se stare male o se stare peggio.
Ma una cosa è certa: nella Guerra, nella Sventura e nella Miseria che dovessero colpirci, per favore, non offrite più bandiere colorate, marce, cordoglio e sdegno.
Dateci Pane e Silenzio..."
