APOLLO 16 AS 16 114-18418.jpgAS 16-114-18418 - Moonscape with craters (1)87 visiteNessuna autentica anomalia in questa serie di 5 frames consecutivi: solo un paesaggio Lunare decisamente suggestivo, caratterizzato da due crateri, posti uno accanto all'altro.
Toutatis.jpg
Toutatis.jpgEarth from the asteroid "Toutatis"87 visiteOn September 29, 2004, the Earth came within 1 million miles of the asteroid Toutatis - the closest predicted approach of our fair planet to a sizable asteroid or comet in this century. Coming within 1 million miles (or about 4 times the Earth-Moon distance), Earth would appear to be nearly the size of the full moon in the asteroid's sky, as suggested in this illustration. In Earth's sky, Toutatis appeared only as a faint object rapidly moving against a background of stars. Also known as Earth-Crossing Asteroid (ECA) 4179, Toutatis is in an eccentric 4 year orbit which moves it from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter to just inside Earth's orbit. When the Earth passed near it in 1992 Toutatis was imaged by radar and seen to be 2 irregularly shaped lumps, perhaps joined by a narrow neck. This bizarre object is about 3 Km wide, 5,5 Km long and is tumbling through space. Studies of Toutatis and other ECA's help reveal connections between the Solar System's meteorites main-belt asteroids and comets.

Black Sun.jpg
Black Sun.jpgBlack Sun87 visiteCaption NASA originale:"During a total solar eclipse, Earth's moon blocks the Sun - almost exactly. While the Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon, it is also about 400 times farther away and each appears to be half a degree or so in diameter. On August 11, 1999 this remarkable coincidence in the apparent size of two vastly different celestial bodies produced tantalizing solar spectacles for denizens of Europe and Asia. For example, prominences along the Sun's limb peer around the Moon's dark edge in this dramatic picture of totality recorded as the lunar shadow swept across Hungary. Subtle structures in the Sun's inner corona are also visible streaming beyond the silhouetted Moon".
Sunrise from Space.jpg
Sunrise from Space.jpgSunrise from space...87 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Sunrise seen from low Earth orbit by the shuttle astronauts can be very dramatic indeed. In this view, the Sun is just visible peaking over towering anvil-shaped storm clouds whose silhouetted tops mark the upper boundary of the troposphere, the lowest layer of planet Earth's atmosphere. Sunlight filtering through suspended dust causes this dense layer of air to appear red. In contrast, the blue stripe marks the stratosphere, the tenuous upper atmosphere, which preferentially scatters blue light".

M-029-1.jpgM 29 - Open Star Cluster87 visite"La solita strada, bianca come il sale,
Il grano da crescere, i campi da arare,

E un bel giorno dire: "basta"!
E andare via..."

Huygens-IMG001253-br500.jpg
Huygens-IMG001253-br500.jpgThe "Huygens Probe", "camera artifacts" and 4 "known" stars87 visiteShown in white boxes are known stars; the probe is the brightest item on the lower right. The other dots are artifacts of the camera. Although only a few pixels across, this image is helping navigators reconstruct the probe's trajectory and pinpoint its position relative to Cassini. This information so far shows that the probe and Cassini are right on the mark and well within the predicted trajectory accuracy. This information is important to help establish the required geometry between the probe and the orbiter for radio communications during the probe descent on January 14. The Huygens probe, built and managed by ESA, will remain dormant until the onboard timer wakes it up just before the probe reaches Titan's upper atmosphere. Then it will begin a dramatic plunge through Titan's murky atmosphere, tasting its chemical makeup and composition as it descends to touch down on its surface. The data gathered during this 2,5 hours descent will be transmitted from the probe to the Cassini orbiter. Afterward, Cassini will point its antenna to Earth and relay the data through NASA's Deep Space Network to JPL and on to the European Space Agency's Space Operations Center in Darmstadt, Germany, which serves as the operations center for the Huygens probe mission.
