Spirit's PanCam began taking exposures for the McMurdo Panorama on the Rover's 814th Martian day (April 18, 2006).
The Rover has accumulated more than 900 exposures for this panorama so far, through all of the PanCam mineralogy filters and using little or no image compression. Even with a tilt toward the Winter Sun, the amount of energy available daily is small, so the job will still take 1 to 2 more months to complete".

This is an approximate true-color rendering combining exposures taken through 3 of the PanCam's filters. The filters used are centered on wavelengths of 750-, 530- and 430 nanometers".

Insomma: come fare a credere (anche solo in parte) a chi, ormai diremmo per definizione, "nasconde e confonde"?

In realtà, nella Cerchiatura Rossa, la traccia evidente di una cancellazione digitale la quale, nel detail mgnf, emerge in tutta la sua sconcertante ovvietà.
Che cosa si intendeva nascondere? Mistero...
p.s.: qualche Lettore ipotizza che le "abrasioni digitali" possano essere, in realtà, semplici vizi dell'immagine determinati, ad esempio, da un errore nella trasmissione dei dati da Marte a Terra (oppure nella perdita di qualche dato - e cioè di qualche pixel - durante la trasmissione).
Noi diciamo che si, certo, può essere, ma i vizi di questo tipo - di regola - visualmente si manifestano in maniera diversa (p.e.: la perdita totale di pixel - trasmissione abortita - si esprime in vere e proprie macchie nere, a bordi levigati e forma regolare, mentre l'arrivo di un numero di pixel inferiore al necessario - trasmissione parziale - si risolve in immagini dalla fattura grossolana in cui le uniche forme percepibili sono quelle collegate ad (e determinate da) aree più illuminate in rapporto ad aree meno illuminate).

OPP-SOL864-1R204885908EFF73K0P1375R0M1.jpgThe way behind (1) - Sol 86455 visiteCinque frames semiconsecutivi i quali ci mostrano, in rapida successione, come i paesaggi PanCam e NavCam, nella loro artificiale bellezza, sìano oltremodo ingannevoli: a quanto pare, infatti, Opportunity sta marciando su un'area relativamente piatta mentre le altre immagini che ci vengono mostrate (quelle PanCam e NavCam, appunto) "suggeriscono" (diciamo così) un cammino, da Erebus verso Beagle e Victoria Crater, quanto mai complesso e costellato di insidie (dune soffici e molto alte).
La verità? Impossibile esserne certi ma, sapendo che i frames Front e Rear HazCam sono più affidabili, diremmo che la marcia verso i due suddetti crateri potrebbe non essere stata per nulla difficile...

From here, Spirit is looking North-North/East en route to examining more of the local geology of the Columbia Hills in Gusev Crater. A few days after taking this picture, Spirit investigated the small, sinuous drifts on the left, located north-northeast of the rover's position in this image. The last previous time Spirit examined a drift was on the rim of Bonneville Crater almost 500 Soles ago, in March 2004".
