This is the darkest landing site ever visited by a spacecraft on Mars. The rim of the Crater is approximately 10 mt (approx. 32 feet) from the Rover. The Crater is estimated to be 20 mt (approx. 65 feet) in diameter. Scientists are intrigued by the abundance of rock outcrops dispersed throughout the Crater, as well as the Crater's soil, which appears to be a mixture of coarse gray grains and fine reddish grains. Data taken from the camera's near-infrared, green and blue filters were combined to create this approximate true color picture, taken on the first day of Opportunity's journey. The view is to the west-southwest of the Rover".

(1)197 visiteSu segnalazione dell'Amico Massimo Granzo (che ci ha inviato questo bellissimo frame) abbiamo provato a verificare se l'oggetto visibile nella cerchiatura rossa fosse un semplice photoartifact, o un rilievo curioso e parzialmente illuminato, oppure un'Anomalìa Orbitale vera e propria (un Fast-Walker - lett. "Veloce Camminatore" - il quale è: "...an object - or more objects - moving across the Lunar Disc. Alexey Arkhipov, an astronomer in Prague, refers to these objects as 'FMOs' or 'Fast-Moving Objects'...").
Si, avete capito bene: un oggetto (naturale o non) il quale si muove - dal nostro punto di vista - in prossimità della superficie della Luna ed quindi - talvolta - capace di produrre un'ombra sulla medesima.
L'analisi riguardo a questo interessante frame è stata svolta dal Dr A. Feltri.

Un plauso al Dr Barca per aver selezionato un numero impressionante di frames controversi ed un plauso al Dr Foschini per le splendide (oltre che suggestive) elaborazioni "senza ritocchi" (solo ingrandimenti).
