Because of the high phase angle, and perhaps because of scattering sunlight in Triton's hazy atmosphere, few surface features are also easily discernible". Se non andiamo errati, la missione doveva durare - più o meno - circa 150 soles. Il Rover, in altre parole, avrebbe dovuto smettere di funzionare - a causa delle condizioni "ostili" di Marte - già da qualche mese. E invece eccolo che funziona a meraviglia e la missione può essere definita ancora di più di un semplice successo:...

Noi siamo i primi ad essere felici per questo "trionfo" però, in qualità di Ricercatori e di persone dotate di una normale intelligenza, desideriamo fare una piccola puntualizzazione. Non riteniamo corretto, innanzi tutto, che la NASA ci prenda in giro stimando la "vita massima" di un suo prodotto in un arco di tempo irrisorio (sapevamo tutti molto bene che i Rover avrebbero avuto una vita decisamente lunga, salvo il verificarsi di eventi negativi davvero straordinari) al solo...

Tutto sembra in ordine. Vedremo poi le novità (se ce ne sono o ce ne saranno) nei prossimi giorni...

From left, the moons visible here are Janus (181 Km across) and Mimas (398 Km across). Cassini's view in this image is from beneath the ring plane; the moons are on the far side of Saturn. Janus leads Mimas as the two moons orbit the planet. Nearly the entire ring system can be seen in this view. The diaphanous C-Ring appears at the upper right, followed by the multi-hued B-Ring. Next, the famous Cassini division (4.800 Km wide) separates the A and B rings. The outer edge of the B-Ring which forms the inner boundary of the Cassini division is maintained by a gravitational resonance with Mimas. Near the outer edge of the A-Ring are the Encke Gap (325 Km wide) and the barely visible Keeler Gap (35 Km wide). The faint, thread-like F-Ring is slightly discernible just beyond the main rings".

SOL268-2N150154489EDN8900P1574L0M1.jpgMartian sky above Gusaev Crater54 visiteCome avevamo già detto in sede di commento ad un altro frame, Spirit si trova in un punto davvero critico: ovunque si guardi, il prosieguo del cammino appare davvero di ardua percorrenza e infatti...Spirit è fermo. Le istantanee che riceviamo si riferiscono, in assoluta prevalenza, a vedute di pietraie ora più ed ora meno impercorribili, senza correre il rischio di rimanere bloccati o - in caso estremo - di ribaltarsi (ed in tal ultimo frangente la "End of Mission" sarebbe ufficiale). Spirit, però, non si limita a guardare solo al ruvido paesaggio circostante: Spirit (come Opportunity) guarda anche (e sempre più spesso...) verso l'alto: le immagini del Cielo di Marte, infatti, aumentano sempre di più. Forse al Centro Controllo Missione stanno riflettendo e, nel contempo, stanno cercando qualcosa. Noi continuiamo ad osservare, con curiosità, l'evolversi della situazione...
