ZO-SPIRIT-SOL354_MERA_MOC-A357R1.jpgApproaching an "overlook"212 visiteThe path of NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit through the rover's 354th martian day, or sol (Dec. 31, 2004), plus some future travel options, are indicated on this map of the "Husband Hill" region of the "Columbia Hills" within Mars' Gusev Crater. The rover team plans to send Spirit to a vantage point dubbed "Larry's Lookout" for views to help in deciding whether to dip into "Tennessee Valley."
The base image for the map was taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera aboard NASA's Mars Global Surveyor.

APOLLO 15 AS 15 88-11862 HR.jpgAS 15-88-11862 (HR) - The "First Wheels" on the Moon212 visitePlacca commemorativa che recita "MAN'S FIRST WHEELS ON THE MOON DELIVERED BY FALCON JULY 30, 1971".

APOLLO 15 AS 15 84-11250 HR.jpgAS 15-84-11250 - Silver Spur (HR)212 visiteOriginal caption:"Dave Scott took this 500-mm picture of Silver Spur during the SEVA at about 106:58:07 MT. Silver Spur is named for Caltech geologist Lee Silver, who showed Scott and Irwin that field geology could be exciting (see Don Wilhelm's excellent book "To a Rocky Moon").
Note that there appear to be 2 systems of lineations in Silver Spur. One set consists of what appear to be about ten thick beds which appear to dip down from right to left as seen from the LM. As discussed in the Apollo 15 Preliminary Science Report, this set of lineations may well represent real structure in the mountain.
The second set of lineations consists of closely-spaced, nearly horizontal lines and these lines may be lighting artifacts".

QA-VikingLS-1.jpgViking One: the Landing Site - First Color Picture (original)212 visiteCaption originale:"Scan from an original print of the initially released version of the first color picture from the surface of Mars. The intent was to show a gray sky, but the initial batch of prints were color balanced too blue".

The image represents a Transitional Region on the Surface separating the heavily Cratered Highlands in the South from the smooth Northern Plains.
The Dissected Terrain contains a series of Mesas (i.e.: isolated "High Plateaux") and Buttes (i.e.: small and flat-topped Hills).MareKromium
