NGC-7293.jpgNGC 7293 - The "Red Eye Nebula"58 visite"...C’è un’ altra cosa che, da qualche tempo, mi crea insofferenza: la spudoratezza con la quale oggi si riesce a “mistificare” qualunque pensiero, accompagnandolo con una ipocrisia irriverente persino per chi la usa.
Con chi ce l’ ho? E' un po’ come il gioco delle scatole cinesi, c'è sempre qualcuno, che non è mai l'ultimo, a cui non è mai possibile dare l'onere della responsabilità; allora mi irrito quando leggo sul giornale che, un giudice, rilascia il giorno stesso del loro arresto, criminali presi in flagranza di reato perché non ravvisa elementi tali da far aprire per loro le porte di un carcere e questo perchè c'è sempre un articolo del codice penale, o un'interpretazione più ampia o lo spiccato senso della giustizia di una società garantista che hanno legato le mani di quel giudice; mi irrita sentire qualcuno dire, il giorno dopo l’ uccisione dell’ agente di polizia a Catania, "in fondo, da un punto di vista statistico, un morto ci può anche stare", per cui palla a centro, si ricomincia; mi irrita vedere un Comune, afflitto dal bisogno di far cassa, chiamare “prevenzione per la sicurezza stradale” l'installazione di telecamere ai semafori per colpire quegli indisciplinati che non hanno ancora imparato a prevedere la macchia gialla che per una frazione di secondo s’insinuerà tra il verde ed il rosso; mi irrita, sentire irriducibili puritani proclamare la sacralità della famiglia, mentre tengono caldi più “letti” e mi irritano un’infinità di altre cose ancora, che sarebbe lungo dire, ma che sono diventate il nuovo standard di una società che riesce a mentirsi addosso e perfino ad indignarsi per questo, così che faccia e coscienza possano tornare pulite.
Non so come sia nel resto del mondo, ma avere guadagnato uno dei primissimi posti in classifica come uno dei Paesi più bugiardi, la dice lunga su quanto siamo diventati cialtroni, noi Italiani..."

Mentre parlava, mi fissava senza guardarmi, come se ogni parola la pescasse lontano tra i suoi ricordi, ed anche le mani, adesso, erano ferme e quasi abbandonate l’una nell’altra. Mi fermai a guardare meglio quegli occhi: erano neri come può esserlo il Cielo d’Inverno, quando è sera e ci sono le stelle.
Improvvisamente tornò a mostrarmi la bianca fila di denti che le facevano corona, quando sorrideva, e con fare scanzonato disse che quel pranzo lo avrebbe offerto lei, per festeggiare la sua prima vera intervista da quando aveva cominciato quel lavoro.
A proposito, le chiesi, ma per conto di chi svolgi questo “sciagurato lavoro”, come lo chiami tu?
- Per me stessa! Vedi, sto scrivendo un libro su tutto ciò che circola dentro quella poltiglia grigia, - l’hai chiamata così, vero? - che sta dentro la testa della gente comune; di quello che pensano i cervelloni come i politici, gli scienziati, il Papa, i Presidenti, gli Amministratori delegati e via dicendo, sappiamo tutto e cioè che non dicono niente mentre, al contrario, di cosa siano fatti i pensieri di quelli come noi non se ne sa quasi nulla, è un mistero. Si, ci accoriamo per la situazione politica ed economica, per l’inquinamento, la questione sociale, le guerre, gli UFO e le apparizioni Mariane, ma questo è ciò di cui ci costringono ad occuparci; cos’altro c’è nella Coscienza Collettiva che non viene mai a galla ma che ti tiene in piedi o ti ferisce profondamente, che ti fa fare delle scelte, ti fa amare, reagire, crescere ?...”.

Titan-Seas-Kraken_Mare-PIA08365.jpgTitanian Seas58 visiteCassini peers through the murky orange haze of Titan to spy what are believed to be bodies of liquid hydrocarbons, 2 of them as large as seas on Earth, near the moon's North Pole. This picture blends a near natural-color view and an infrared glimpse of Titan's surface obtained by the visual cameras, followed by a transition to imagery collected by the radar instrument aboard Cassini, for a dramatic reveal of the North Pole of Saturn's largest moon.
As the image zooms in on the North Pole, the most readily visible bodies are outlined in blue. The largest of these, on the left, is as big as the Caspian Sea on Earth; the next largest, on the right, is about the size of Lake Superior. When compared to the surface area of Titan however (which is six times smaller than Earth's), these bodies are equivalent in size to the Bay of Bengal and Timor Sea, respectively. Geographically speaking, they are more like seas.

The data were collected by the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter aboard NASA's Mars Global Surveyor orbiter between 1997 and 2001. The elevation of the terrain is shown by colors, with purple and blue representing the lowest areas, and orange and red the highest. The total range of elevation shown is about 5 Km. The black line shows the boundary of the South Polar Layered Deposits, an ice-rich geologic unit that was probed by the Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionospheric Sounding (MARSIS) aboard the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter.
The radar data indicate that the deposit is more than 3,7 Km (about 2,3 miles) thick in places, and that the material consists of nearly pure water ice, with only a small component of dust. The MARSIS team also determined that the total volume of ice in the layered deposits is equivalent to a water layer 11 mt (36 feet) deep, if spread evenly across the Planet. The boundary of the Layered Deposits was mapped by scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey. The dark circle in the upper center is the area poleward of 87° South Latitude, where MARSIS data cannot be collected.
The image covers an area of 1670 by 1800 Km (about 1035 by 1115 miles).

The MARSIS radar is an instrument on the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter. The thickness of the layered deposits was determined by measuring the time delay between radar echoes from the surface and those from the lower boundary, or "bed", of the deposits.
The radar data indicate that the deposit, larger than Texas in area, is more than 3,7 Km (about 2,3 miles) thick in places, and that the material consists of nearly pure water ice with only a small component of dust.
