This is a natural color rendition of the site. Clementine images were deliberately taken at very low phase angles (which means high Sun angles) to emphasize color differences, so surface textures are much less apparent here than in the orbital Apollo view.
Note the very bright appearance of South Ray and North Ray Craters (center right).

AMIE obtained the image on 5 February 2006 from a distance of 1764 Km from the surface, with a ground resolution of 159 mt per pixel.
The imaged area is centred at a Long. of 23,9º East, close to the Moon Equator, at 1,7º North Latitude.
The area is close to crater Moltke (outside the field of view of this image) in the Mare Tranquilitatis Region. The arrow shows the Landing Site of Apollo 11, where the first men from Earth set foot on another object in our Solar System, on 20 July 1969. The two prominent craters nearby are named after two of the Apollo 11 Astronauts. The first man on the Moon, Armstrong, has a crater named after him outside the field of this image".

A-Phoenix-002-0.jpgOne, Two, Three...TESTING!57 visiteL'inequivocabile presenza di un microfono, accanto ad una delle Camere di cui è dotata la Sonda Phoenix, ci suggerisce ancora nuovi ed interessanti scenari: gli Amici di Pasadena non vogliono solo fotografie ed esperimenti di "cottura" (ammesso che si riesca a farli, prima o poi...): loro vogliono anche "suoni" da Marte!
Quali? Forse il vento... Forse anche altre cose.
Ottimo l'Occhio del Dr Faccin e notevole l'intuizione dello STAFF di Lunexit quando, alcuni mesi fa, abbiamo pensato che l'idea di un "Audio-File" da Marte potesse anche essere una buona idea.
E se lo è, allora Phoenix NON ha l'esclusiva del suono...Credeteci!MareKromium

Frame ottenuto dall'interno del LM e che riprende, fra i molti altri, anche i crateri 216 & 217.

Ricordate quando parlammo, a proposito di Apollo 11, del materiale lasciato sulla Luna, a "disposizione" (si fa per dire...) di chiunque? Ed allora ecco una parte del materiale lasciato dall'Apollo 12: e se parliamo del suo valore venale sommato al valore storico...Raggiungiamo le centinaia di miliardi ossìa il "costo" della Missione!
E poi, a parte le antipatiche (ancorchè scherzose)...

Per ritornare ad "unire" l'Umanità sotto una sola Bandiera, come nel 1969 (e qui non parliamo più di "Stelle e Strisce", ma di Scienza, Tecnica e Progresso)?
Non varrebbe la pena, anzichè continuare ad "avanzare ipotesi", dalle più serie alle più assurde, di "andare...
