L'obbiettivo - come già ci era stato anticipato dalla NASA qualche tempo fa (vedi la Mappa ZH-South-A357R1) - è il cratere "Vostok".
Noi, però, vorremmo capire (se possibile) il motivo che sta alla base di tale scelta, ma non fraintendeteci: questa non è una contestazione mossa alla NASA e relativa ai suoi criteri di scelta dei target (non ci permetteremmo mai...); è solo una legittima curiosità.
Una curiosità che, come tante altre, non sarà soddisfatta.Feb 26, 2005

Insomma: quella luce che vediamo accanto al Sole è un riflesso, un difetto del frame o una Nave Spaziale in ricognizione?
E' un vero peccato che la NASA inviti tutti i Ricercatori e gli Appassionati a guardare, studiare e far domande e poi, quando le domande si fanno davvero interessanti, non risponda MAI!...Dic 09, 2004

Il primo frame mostra solo il disco solare; il secondo evidenzia una leggera deformazione del disco sul suo lato superiore Dx (a Sn del disco solare per l'Osservatore); il terzo ci fa vedere - piuttosto bene... - un "Secondo Sole" accanto al primo. Si tratta di un difetto dell'immagine dovuto alla sovraesposizione, oppure di un errore nella trasmissione dell'immagine o - magari - di un oggetto reale che è passato accanto al Sole e che Opportunity ha fotografato?!?

The data was taken by the miniature thermal emission spectrometer instrument on NASA's MER Opportunity. The information has been overlaid onto a view of the crater from the rover's NavCam. Blue denotes cooler temperatures of about 220 deg. Kelvin (-63.67 deg. Fahrenheit or -53.15° C) and red denotes warmer temperatures of about 280 deg. Kelvin (44.33 deg. Fahrenheit or 6.85° C)". Il cammino di questo Rover, a differenza di quanto è accaduto ed accade a Spirit, procede molto più "tranquillamente", essendo la Zona di Meridiani Planum del tutto priva (almeno in apparenza) delle asperità e degli ostacoli (delle vere e proprie minacce per l'incolumità del Rover) che invece intralciano la marcia di Spirit. Comunque sia, entrambe le Missioni - come già si è avuta occasione di dire - sono un "successo" e verranno proseguite per (almeno) altri 6 mesi e comunque fino a che i due Rover non avranno smesso di dare "segni di vita".Set 22, 2004

ZA-B-OPPMAP-17-jb-04-moc-B041R1_br2.jpgOpportunity's landing site's Map - the heatshield location217 visiteCon questa Mappa, si risolve (in teoria) il dubbio sull'origine e la natura del manufatto argenteo, ad alta riflettenza, individuato presso Endurance Crater, ripreso innumerevoli volte dal Rover Opportunity e da noi lungamente commentato. Però adesso si pone un nuovo interrogativo: esso sorge dall'analisi di un'immagine che noi abbiamo riportato nella Sezione "Mars in Colors". Essa raffigura la back-shell & parachute.
Questa componente, in accordo a quella immagine, si dovrebbe trovare accanto ad Endurance Crater, più o meno nella posizione indicata dalla Mappa per l'Heat-Shield e NON in posizione diametralmente opposta.Ago 31, 2004
