Volcanic_Features-Channels-Tharsis_Region-00.JPGChannels on Lava Flows in Tharsis (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)53 visiteCaption NASA originale:"This MGS-MOC image shows ancient, Dust-covered Lava Flows and remains of leveed Lava Channels located on a Plain North/West of Jovis Tholus.
Jovis is a relatively small volcano in the Tharsis Region of Mars".
Location near: 22,4° North Lat. and 122,0° West Long.
Image width: ~3 Km (~1,9 mi)

Volcanic_Features-Collapse_Pit-2003_07_12.jpgCollapse Pit in Tractus Fossae (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)59 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Extensional faulting, wherein some fraction of the Martian Crust is pulled apart and Faults are formed where the Bedrock breaks, has also led to formation of Collapse Pits in the Tractus Fossae Region. This MGS-MOC image shows one such pit and the layered bedrock exposed in its walls. Dark Streaks on the Slopes of the Pit result from Avalanches of dry, fine-grained debris (probably Dust, as these streaks are only found in the dust-mantled regions of Mars).
This Pit is located near 23,5° North Lat. and 103,8° West Long. Sunlight illuminates the scene from the lower left".

Volcanic_Features-Collapse_Pit-PIA06416.jpgCollapse Pit in Tractus Fossae (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)57 visiteOriginal Caption:"This MGS-MOC image shows a 1,5 meters (5 feet) per pixel view of a large Collapse Pit in the Tractus Fossae portion of the Tharsis Region of Mars. Such collapses usually occur along faults formed by expansion and pulling apart of the Planet's Upper Crust".
Location near: 22,5° North Lat. and 101,4° West Long.

Volcanic_Features-Collapse_Pit_Chain-MGS.JPGCollapse Pit-Chain in Tharsis Region (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)76 visiteCaption NASA originale:"This MGS-MOC image shows a chain of collapse pits on a dust-mantled, lava-covered plain North-East of Ascraeus Mons (one of the giant volcanoes located in the Tharsis Region of Mars).
Pit chains are associated with collapse which may be driven by several processes including, but not limited to, crustal extension owing to tectonic processes and the collapse of the roof of a lava tube".
Location near: 14,8° North Lat. and 99,1° West Long.
Image width: ~3 Km (~1,9 mi)
Illumination from: lower left
Season: Northern Winter

Volcanic_Features-Collapse_Pit_Chain-Tharsis_Tolus-MGS.JPGCollapse Pit-Chain near Tharsis Tholus (Original NASA/MGS/MSSS b/w Frame)66 visiteCaption NASA originale:"This MGS-MOC mage shows a portion of a Chain of Collapse Pits on a Lava and Dust-covered Plain, North/West of Tharsis Tholus —one of the many volcanic constructs in the Tharsis Region of Mars.
Pit chains, such as this one, are associated with the collapse of surface materials into subsurface voids formed by faulting and expansion — or extension — of the bedrock".
Location near: 16,4° North Lat. and 92,6° West Long.
Image width: ~3 Km (~1,9 mi)
Illumination from: lower left
Season: Northern Winter
