Developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., this technology combines visualization and image-processing tools with Hollywood-style special effects. The image was created using a photorealistic model of the Rover and a false-color mosaic. The size of the Rover in the image is approximately correct and was based on the size of the Rover tracks in the mosaic. The mosaic was assembled from frames taken by the Pan-Cam on the Rover's 489th Martian day (May 19, 2005); see PIA07997.
Because this synthesis provides viewers with a sense of their own "virtual presence" (as if they were there themselves), such views can be useful to mission teams in planning exploration by enhancing perspective and a sense of scale.

Dalla sua casa, la grande muraglia azzurra che sigillava l'orizzonte era sempre stata una visione evanescente e carica di forza, che gli riportava al cuore atmosfere leggere e preziose. Non ci aveva mai pensato veramente, ma un giorno, senza neanche ragionarci più a lungo di una semplice decisione, mise qualcosa nella bisaccia e partì.
Camminò per settimane senza mai perdere di vista la sua mèta e quando finalmente la raggiunse, le sue condizioni fisiche erano ancora eccellenti.
Da vicino, quell'immane muro di roccia grigia non aveva più nulla di etereo, al contrario, quel colore così cupo gli dava adesso un aspetto minaccioso e quasi inquietante; del resto anche il paesaggio intorno aveva perso le calde tonalità dei prati per farsi brullo, stepposo e tormentato.
Rimase tutto il pomeriggio con le spalle appoggiate contro una roccia a guardare quelle pareti. Il vento correndo tra le gole e gli anfratti s'infrangeva contro quei poderosi bastioni in un lamento continuo, quasi di sofferenza, che Lear ascoltava incantato ed incurante del freddo e del tempo che intanto scorreva veloce.
Aveva il corpo schiacciato contro la parete e le mani in carca di appigli, quando fu sfiorato dall’ultima luce rosata di un tramonto, che si spense quasi d’improvviso…”.

In this colorful telephoto view from near Quebec City, Canada, the Moon is nestled just above the wide St. Lawrence River. Lights on the horizon are along the river's southern shore. Also known as the evening star, Venus is at the upper left and Jupiter at the upper right, while another prominent celestial beacon, Spica, can be seen shining through the twilight below Venus.
Spica, actually a very close pair of hot blue stars some 260 LY away, is the brightest star in the constellation Virgo".
