Developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., this technology combines visualization and image-processing tools with Hollywood-style special effects. The image was created using a photorealistic model of the Rover and a false-color mosaic. The size of the Rover in the image is approximately correct and was based on the size of the Rover tracks in the mosaic. The mosaic was assembled from frames taken by the Pan-Cam on the Rover's 489th Martian day (May 19, 2005); see PIA07997.
Because this synthesis provides viewers with a sense of their own "virtual presence" (as if they were there themselves), such views can be useful to mission teams in planning exploration by enhancing perspective and a sense of scale.

I primi 2 elementi giungono, molto probabilmente, dalla corrente di gas ionizzati proveniente dal Sole (ciò che comunemente chiamiamo "Vento Solare"), mentre gli altri 4 potrebbero scaturire direttamente dalle rocce esistenti sulla (o al di sotto della) superficie di Mercurio.
Come? Abbiamo tre ipotesi al riguardo (e tutte ugualmente plausibili):
1) potrebbe trattarsi di una lenta "evaporazione" (!) delle rocce superficiali causata dalla (e, per lunghi periodi di tempo, costante) temperatura elevatissima;
2) fenomeni di "outgassing" simili a quelli che - si dice - accadano anche sulla nostra Luna (si tratta di sacche di gas, imprigionate da ere ed ere al di sotto della superficie del Pianeta, che si liberano improvvisamente - a seguito di eventi sismici o di impatti veri e propri - e fuoriescono, ora incendiandosi e generando delle "flares" - fiammate o fiaccole -, ora disperdendosi nell'ambiente circostante);

Bisogna dare pane agli affamati.
Conforto agli sventurati.
Gioia agli infelici.
Salute e Serenità ai poveri ed ai malati senza speranza.
Casa agli abbandonati.
E memoria ai dimenticati.
Perchè, lui mi disse, non c'è posto per l'Uomo "out there", fra le Stelle, sintanto che la Miseria, la Fame e l'Ingiustizia saranno Padrone della Terra.
Eravamo nel Luglio 2001.
Oggi, il mio Amico non c'è più. Ma le sue Parole, come vedete, sono rimaste.
Io lo ricordo con infinito Affetto, per la Compagnia, l'Amicizia ed i preziosi consigli che mi ha dato.
Oggi, in questo giorno di Memoria per il Mondo, le sue parole acquisiscono un "senso" ancora - se possibile - più profondo.
Se non saremo capaci di stabilire un minimo di Giustizia sulla Terra, non avremo alcun futuro al di fuori di Essa...".

Of course, on that day the Moon rose with the Sun, creating a widely enjoyed partial solar eclipse. Along with a mountainous horizon, the cloud cover lent a dramatic aspect to this eclipse sunrise and made it possible for astronomer Babak Tafreshi to record these telephoto images without using a filter. Advancing north in planet Earth's sky, the Sun itself was also approaching the equinox, the astronomical marker for the first day of Northern Hemisphere Spring and the beginning of Norouz, the Persian New Year".

Counter-glow.jpgThe Gegenshein (or "Counter Glow") Effect in Pisces59 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day", del 26 Dicembre 2006:"If you look carefully enough, you can even see the glow of the Sun in the opposite direction. At night this glow is known as the Gegenschein (German for "Counter Glow"), and can be seen as a faint glow in an extremely dark sky. The Gegenschein is sunlight back-scattered off small interplanetary dust particles. These dust particles are millimeter sized splinters from asteroids and orbit in the ecliptic plane of the planets.
Pictured above, the gegenschein is seen superposed toward the constellation of Pisces. The Gegenschein is distinguished from Zodiacal Light by the high angle of reflection. During the day, a phenomenon similar to the Gegenschien - called "The Glory" - can be seen in reflecting air or clouds opposite the Sun from an airplane".MareKromium

For starters, on this Friday morning in August 2002, no intense auroral activity was expected at all. Possibly more surprising, however, the aurora appeared to show an usual structure of green rays from some locations. In the above image, captured from North Dakota, USA, a picket fence of green rays stretches toward the horizon. Mirroring the green rays is a red band, somewhat rare in its own right. Lights from the cities of Bismarck and Mandan are visible near the horizon. Large sunspot groups indicate that activity from an active Sun is relatively likely, possibly causing other streams of energetic particles to cascade onto the Earth and so causing more auroras".
