Saturn-W00002926.jpgNew "Anomaly" near Saturn?57 visiteUn'altra immagine ambigua che ci arriva dallo spazio di Saturno: in basso, verso la Dx dell'Osservatore, si vede piuttosto bene una striscia luminosa e dai bordi frastagliati.
Si tratta di un oggetto in movimento o di un (ennesimo) artifact? Un suggerimento: non spendete troppo tempo nè troppe speranze contattando la NASA o l'Istituto che, di volta in volta e missione dopo missione, Vi verrà indicato come quello a cui rivolgere tutte le domande che Vi passano per la testa. Se la Vostra "domanda" sarà un "complimento" oppure una "ovvietà", avrete (forse) una risposta in 6/7 mesi; se invece Vi addentrerete in questioni più ..."delicate"... allora abbandonate ogni speranza: una risposta non la riceverete MAI.

Mimas - PIA06509_modest.jpgMimas: the "Ring Master"56 visiteCaption NASA originale, tratta dal Planetary Photojournal:"Mimas, seen here beyond Saturn's rings, is a major sculptor of Saturn's rings. The 398-Km-wide moon not only maintains the Cassini Division (not seen here), a gap wide enough to be visible from Earth through a small telescope, but it is also responsible for two of the thin, bright bands visible in this image near the rings' center, interior to the dark Encke Gap.
Knots in the thin, twisted F-Ring also are easily visible here.
The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft narrow angle camera on Sept. 7, 2004, at a distance of 8.8 MKMs from Mimas and at a Sun-Mimas-spacecraft - or phase - angle of 84 degrees. The image scale is 53 Km per pixel".

Saturn-N00021884.jpgSaturn56 visiteAlcune immagini, a volte, le selezioniamo "a caso" (per esempio quando il soggetto ripreso è interessante ma ce ne sono davvero un'infinità di altre simili); altre volte, invece - ed in tutta sincerità - le prendiamo solo perchè sono "belle". Questa immagine di Saturno, ripresa da una distanza di circa 4,7 milioni di Km, è - secondo noi - molto bella. Saturno ed il suo imponente - ancorchè delicato - sistema di anelli si vedono benissimo, così come molto bene si vedono due tracce lasciate - forse - da raggi cosmici: la prima, piuttosto piccola e debole, la potete distinguere in alto, appena all'esterno dell'F-Ring, e la seconda, davvero molto lunga e luminosa (e che pare "tagliare" gli Anelli), appena più sotto rispetto alla prima, verso la Dx dell'Osservatore.

Enceladus-N00021253.jpgEnceladus from about 6.000.000 Km57 visiteEcco un'immagine davvero interessante e che vale la pena studiare con attenzione: essa ritrae il bordo di Saturno, una delle sue lune (Enceladus) ed alcune stelle sullo sfondo. Non possiamo non notare il costante miglioramento nella qualità delle immagini e, sempre più spesso, la mancanza di "strisce di luce" le quali, come alla NASA hanno ribadito più volte, sono le inevitabili tracce del pasaggio di raggi cosmici. Noi vorremmo capire come i Tecnici NASA hanno fatto per eliminare le "strisciature": un cambio delle modalità di ripresa o una pulizia elettronica "ex post" di tutte le immagini? La differenza, come capirete, è essenziale...

Saturn-The Atlas Ring-The New Object-PIA06116.jpgThe "New Object" found in Saturn's "F-Ring" (2)57 visiteMa c'è di più: ingrandite le 2 immagini che Vi abbiamo proposto e poi osservate attentamente in alto alla Vostra Dx. Vedrete una piccola, ma ben definita, linea luminosa. Andate quindi sul Sito NASA "Planetary Photojournal - Images of Saturn": c'è una bellissima animazione ottenuta montando in sequenza 18 frames, oltre ai 2 qui pubblicati (ripresi con frequenza di 1 ogni 8 minuti su un arco di 135 minuti). Noterete che la "striscia" di luce di cui Vi stiamo parlando appare solo in 6.
Strano, vero?!?
