Planets are believed to form from such a flattened disc-like cloud of gas and dust orbiting a star very early in its life. The Spitzer telescope was designed in part to study these circumstellar discs, where the dust particles are so cold that they radiate primarily at infrared wavelengths. Located in the constellation Piscis Austrinus, the parent star and its putative planetary system is found at a distance of 25 light-years. The 70-micron image (lower left) clearly shows an asymmetry in the dust distribution, with the southern lobe one-third brighter than the northern. Such an unbalanced structure could be produced by a collision between moderate-sized asteroids in the recent past (releasing a localized cloud of dust) or by the steering effects of ring particles by the gravitational influence of an unseen planet".

A brown dwarf is a cool or "failed" star, which lacks the mass to ignite and shine like our Sun. NASA's SST set its infrared eyes on an extraordinarily low-mass brown dwarf called OTS 44 and found a swirling disc of planet-building dust. At only 15 times the mass of Jupiter, OTS 44 is the smallest known brown dwarf to host a planet-forming, or protoplanetary, disc.
Astronomers believe that this unusual system will eventually spawn planets. If so, they speculate that OTS 44's disc has enough mass to make one small gas giant and a few Earth-sized rocky planets. Examples of these possible planets are depicted at the bottom of this picture, circling a low-mass brown dwarf. Above, the bodies of our own Solar System have been drawn to the same scale. In each system, the terrestrial planets have been enlarged and the distances between them and their parent bodies scaled down.

Chandra Observatory combined x-ray image data from their monitoring program is shown above, with four variable sources circled and labeled A-D. While four sources may not make a swarm, these all lie within only 3 LY of the central supermassive Black Hole known as Sagittarius A* (the bright source just above C). Their detection implies that a much larger concentration of Black Hole systems is present. Repeated gravitational interactions with other stars are thought to cause the Black Hole systems to spiral inward, toward the Galactic Center Region".

SST was able to detect the heat radiation from the cloud of dust around the star and found that the debris disc is much larger than previously thought.
This side by side comparison, taken by Spitzer's multiband imaging photometer, shows the warm infrared glows from dust particles orbiting the star at wavelengths of 24 microns (in blue) and 70 microns (in red).
Both images show a very large, circular and smooth debris disc. The disc radius extends to at least 815 Astronomical Units. (One astronomical unit is the distance from Earth to the Sun, which is 150 MKMs or 93 MMs).
Scientists compared the surface brightness of the disc in the infrared wavelengths to determine the temperature distribution of the disc and then infer the corresponding particle size in the disc. Most of the particles in the disc are only a few microns in size. These fine dust particles originate from collisions of embryonic planets near the star at a radius of approximately 90 astronomical units, and are then blown away by Vega's intense radiation. The mass and short lifetime of these small particles indicate that the disc detected by Spitzer is the aftermath of a large and relatively recent collision, involving bodies perhaps as big as the planet Pluto".

Eta Carinae.jpgEta Carinae75 visite"...Black Hole: una stella collassata, per alcuni; un'anomalia del Cosmo, per altri. Una simpatica definizione diceva che il Buco Nero è una sorta di "Aspirapolvere Cosmico", capace di risucchiare ogni genere di corpo fisico al suo interno, incluso ciò che noi chiamiamo "Tempo". Nel complesso di definizioni, comunque - e nella loro diversità - è sempre emerso un punto comune, che è questo: NULLA, una volta afferrato, può sfuggire al Black Hole.
Ebbene io credo, con ciò creando un paradosso, che se un uomo venisse catturato da uno di questi oggetti, qualcosa potrebbe comunque riuscire a scappare all'immensa attrazione di un siffatto "Aspirapolvere Cosmico".
Cosa?
Ma è semplicissimo: esso non potrebbe mai trattenere un qualsiasi "pensiero" proveniente da questo ipotetico uomo, prigioniero del suo eterno ed invincibile abbraccio gravitazionale..."

Possiamo anche dire che si tratta di una sorta di "Dichiarazione di Principio", ma nulla di più. Non ci può essere convinzione dietro questa posizione intellettuale, poichè ogni Uomo - per il fatto stesso di essere tale - comunque "crede" nell'esistenza di Qualcosa che va oltre se stesso ed oltre il suo impalpabile universo percettibile. Non mi credete? Allora portatemi un "Ateo", qui, ed io vi porterò "Dio"..."
