The-Red-Moon.jpg
The-Red-Moon.jpgEclipsed Moonlight (by Jerry Lodriguss)69 visiteCaption NASA:"Moon watchers blessed with clear skies over the Americas, Europe, Africa and Western Asia enjoyed a total lunar eclipse.
Catching eclipsed moonlight, astroimager Jerry Lodriguss offers this view of the inspiring celestial event with the shadowed Moon accompanied by wandering planet Saturn at the left, and bright Regulus, alpha star of the constellation Leo, above.
The engaging composite picture was made by combining a filtered, telephoto image of the Moon and surrounding starfield with a telescopic exposure. The combination dramatizes the reddened moonlight while clearly showing the variation of brightness and color in Earth's not-so-dark shadow across the lunar surface".

Hoodoos.jpg
Hoodoos.jpgHoodoos69 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day", del giorno 3 Luglio 2008:"The strange-looking rock formations in the foreground of this skyscape are called "Hoodoos".
Towers of weathered, eroded sedimentary rock, Hoodoos are found in arid regions of planet Earth and are particularly abundant in an area known as Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah, USA.
The more familiar night sky pictured here was recorded early Monday morning and includes bright star Capella, alpha star of the constellation Auriga, left of center.
On the far right, a very over exposed crescent Moon dominates the sky in close conjunction with the sister stars of the Pleiades Cluster. The curious shapes of the two tall, illuminated Hoodoos suggest their popular monikers: Thor's Hammer (right) and The Temple of Osiris".

- Artifacts"?

Pensateci sopra...

Eyjafjallajökull-Fulle.jpg
Eyjafjallajökull-Fulle.jpgNight over Eyjafjallajökull (credits: Marco Fulle - Stromboli Online) 69 visiteWhy did the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland create so much ash? Although the large ash plume was not unparalleled in its abundance, its location was particularly noticeable because it drifted across such well populated areas.

The Eyjafjallajökull Volcano in southern Iceland began erupting on March 20, with a second eruption starting under the center of a small glacier on April 14, 2010. Neither eruption was unusually powerful. The second eruption, however, melted a large amount of glacial ice which then cooled and fragmented lava into gritty glass particles that were carried up with the rising Volcanic Plume.
Pictured above, lightning bolts illuminate ash pouring out of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano.

Retrograde_Mars-TT-2010.jpgRetrograde Mars69 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del giorno 13 Giugno 2010:"Why would Mars appear to move backwards? Most of the time, the apparent motion of Mars in Earth's Sky is in one direction, slow but steady in front of the far distant stars. About every two years, however, the Earth passes Mars as they orbit around the Sun. During the most recent such pass late last year and early this year, Mars as usual, loomed large and bright.
Also during this time, Mars appeared to move backwards in the sky, a phenomenon called "Retrograde Motion".
Pictured above is a series of images digitally stacked so that all of the stars images coincide. Here, Mars appears to trace out a loop in the sky. At the center of the loop, Earth passed Mars and the retrograde motion was the highest. Retrograde Motion can also be seen for other Planets of the Solar System".
