SOU-SOL008-81439_full.jpg"Monster-Pan" in 3-D (11) - Sol 871 visiteUna circostanza terribile, se ci passate quest'espressione ironicamente eccessiva, data dal fatto per cui il 'cattivo assemblaggio' delle diverse immagini che, alla fine, producono il paesaggio globale, se solo un elemento anti-estetico nella fotografia (diciamo cos) "normale", nelle immagini a 3-D diventa un autentico fastidio per gli occhi.
Noterete infatti che, in e per questo tipo di frames, l'errore di 'montaggio' si ripercuote in maniera notevole sull'intera economia visiva dell'immagine.

SOU-SOL008-81440_full.jpg"Monster-Pan" in 3-D (12) - Sol 871 visiteIncredibile, per: come gi dicemmo e stigmatizzammo (!) in passato - usando, come ora, un'abbondante dose di ironia... - alla NASA ci sono Uomini che riescono ad immaginare e costruire razzi capaci di portare Uomini e mezzi sulla ISS e Sonde a guida remota a centinaia di milioni di Km di distanza; Uomini che concepiscono a tavolino dei piani di volo i quali, poi, vengono realizzati in maniera brillante da queste piccole astronavi che svolgono delicatissime operazioni e quindi riescono, dopo arditissimi landings, anche a scattare fotografie ed a trasmetterle a Terra.
Eppure, accanto a costoro, alla NASA ci sono anche degli uomini che non riescono ad attaccare decentemente una foto all'altra per formare un collage fotografico: un'attivit che, con ogni probabilit, verrebbe svolta in maniera brillante anche da qualche bambino che va ancora alla scuola elementare.
Strano...

SOU-SOL013-1.jpgBoulder Field - Sol 1371 visiteThis enhanced color image mosaic of the area south of the lander was made using images acquired in the mid-morning of Sol 13 by the IMP camera as part of the Super-Pan data set.
At each camera frame position, a Super-Pan image contains 15 frames (6 frames for 3-color stereo and 9 more individual narrow color bands). This mammoth color and stereo data set will be used to derive high quality topographic maps of the surface and detailed shapes of rocks and other surface features, and to map subtle chemical, mineralogical, and textural variations on rocks and soils. Red, green, and blue filter images from the right eye were combined to simulate slightly amplified natural color. The rocks Squid, Ender, Hassock, and a portion of Wedge are visible in the center-right portion of the mosaic. Mermaid Dune and Bosco rock are visible in the middle-left. The foreground contains portions of the airbags and the top of the low-gain antenna on the lander.
The rim of the impact crater "Big Crater" is visible in the upper-left on the horizon.

Essa basata sulle immagini di Marte ottenute dalla Sonda Pathfinder. Un lavoro discutibile, certo, ma molto attento ed interessante (oltre che originale).
Caption originale:"Sampling the above distinct colors as labeled, I have attempted to extrapolate from the Pathfinder results the global colors of Mars. The assumption is made that the major distinct colors of Mars are sampled at the Pathfinder site and most of a global map of Mars could be made by the use of these colors. This may or may not be true, as some Regions may well have more variety of rock color. Once more of the planet is photographed from orbit and the surface in RGB color such a color chart will undoubtedly grow in variety".

SOU-SOL018-82016_full.jpgWeathered and UN-weathered Rocks and Soil: "Ginger"- Sol 18 (credits: NASA)70 visiteCaption NASA:"One of the more unusual rocks at the site is Ginger, located South-East of the Lander.
Parts of it have the reddest color of any material in view, whereas its rounded lobes are gray and relatively unweathered. These color differences are brought out in the inset, enhaced at the upper right. In the false color image at the lower right, the shape of the visible - wavelength spectrum (related to the abundance of weathered ferric iron minerals) is indicated by the hue of the rocks.
Blue indicates relatively unweathered rocks. Typical soils and drift, which are heavily weathered, are shown in green and flesh tones.
The very red color in the creases in the rock surface correspond to a crust of ferric minerals.
The origin of the rock is uncertain; the ferric crust may have grown underneath the rock, or it may cement pebbles together into a conglomerate. Ginger will be a target of future super- resolution studies to better constrain its origin".MareKromium
