By that time, nearly 47 months into a mission originally planned to last 3 months, Spirit had driven 7435 mt (4,62 miles).
From its Landing Site near the North-Western corner of this map, Spirit crossed a plain to reach the Columbia Hills, climbed over the Summit of Husband Hill, and then descended into the Inner Basin of the range, near the South-Eastern corner of the map.
For this map, the yellow line indicating Spirit's route has been overlaid onto a portion of an image taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on Nov. 22, 2006, That image is catalogued as PSP_001513_1655 (see also PIA01897). The scale bar on the map is 500 mt (1640 feet) long.

The Rover's Operators selected an area with North-Facing Slope there as a destination where Spirit would have its best chance of surviving low-solar-energy conditions of oncoming Martian Winter.
The yellow line on this map of the Home Plate area indicates Spirit's route from early February 2006, entering the mapped area from the North (top), to late November 2007, on the Western Edge of the bright-toned Home Plate plateau. The map covers an area about 160 mt (525 feet) across from West to East. Labels indicate the area intended for Spirit to spend many months spanning the Rover's 3rd Martian Winter, the site where it spent about 7 months (April to November 2006) spanning its 2nd Winter, and the site where it lost use of the drive motor for 1 of its 6 wheels.
A North-Facing Slope helps Spirit maximizes electric output from its Solar Panels during Winter months because Spirit is in the Southern Hemisphere of Mars, so the Sun appears only in the Northern Sky during Winter. For the 3rd winter, which will reach its minimum solar-energy days in early June 2008, Spirit faces the challenge of having more dust on its Solar Panels than it had during its 2nd one.
The base image for this map is a portion of a color image taken on Jan. 9, 2007, by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter".

As indicated by the yellow line tracing the path Spirit has driven, the Rover was near the Western Edge of the plateau on Sol 1390 of the mission (Nov. 30, 2007), but nearing the Northern Edge by Sol 1397 (Dec. 8, 2007).

Che - volendo - su immagini come questa possano essere fatte migliaia e migliaia di speculazioni, ci sta: fa parte della Natura Umana - a volte - e fa anche parte di un certo tipo di "business" - altre volte.
Che poi qualcuno esageri con l'immaginazione, è ancora comprensibile.
Ma l'opinione più curiosa (massì, chiamiamola "curiosa"...) sul "che cosa" quello pseudo-numero possa essere ci arriva, questa volta, dal CICAP.
Ebbene, secondo i Paladini della Razionalità Incarnata, il "Numero" è un "pelucco" il quale si sarebbe intrufolato fra le stesse ottiche della fotocamera che ha effettuato le riprese (o che avrebbe "contaminato" il frame durante il processo di "pulitura" e di digitalizzazione).
Ora, dato che noi consideriamo ed ammiriamo il Lavoro del CICAP almeno tanto quanto il CICAP considera ed ammira il Lavoro dei Liberi Ricercatori, vorremmo che provaste ad indovinare quante possibilità ci sono che un "pelucco" (!) non solo si sia intrufolato nelle ottiche del MER Spirit (o altrove, nelle macchine che hanno elaborato il frame RAW in arrivo da Marte), ma che esso abbia pure raggiunto una configurazione definitiva la quale si risolve (addirittura) in un allineamento di 2 (o 3) numeri arabi leggibili...MareKromiumAgo 09, 2007

Nel ringraziare il Dr Gianluigi Barca - Presidente di Lunar Explorer Italia, Sez. Liguria e Piemonte - il quale ha trovato questi frames interessantissimi e di tre Soles anteriori rispetto al frame-base che abbiamo utilizzato per le nostre ricerche (e relativo al Sol 53), noi non possiamo fare altro che rimettere alla Vostra prudenza la valutazione sul "che cosa" questo artefatto potrebbe o non potrebbe essere.
Manufatto Alieno? Frammento del "nest" in cui il MER Spirit era rinchiuso? Evidenza oggettiva che questa fotografia è falsa (e cioè NON è stata scattata realmente su Marte? Come sempre, quando si parla di Marte (o di Luna, o di Spazio in generale) ce n'è per tutti i gusti, le competenze e le idee ed ognuno di noi, a condizione che sia capace di sostanziare la propria idea - e senza deridere le opinioni altrui -, può legittimamente credere e sostenere quello che vuole...

L'oggetto, inoltre, potrebbe trovarsi in loco da (relativamente) poco tempo.

SOL050-2N130812340EFF1000P1901R0M1-2.jpgAnother "Silver Anomaly" (4) - Sol 50 (extra-detail mgnf)1105 visiteEd ecco, per gli scettici a tutti i costi, l'evidenza oggettiva che l'oggetto ha un'origine metallica: si tratta dell'"Effetto Goccia" (che ormai dovreste conoscere tutti). In poche parole, l'Effetto Goccia è un image artifact che deriva dalla sovraesposizione di un corpo altamente riflettente (pensate, per esempio, ai pannelli solari dei MER allorchè essi vengono ripresi mentre il Sole si riflette sulle loro componenti metalliche non dipinte o rivestite di altro materiale - oppure alla stessa Antenna Mast dei MER).
Dunque: il manufatto è metallico. Ora resta da chiarire la sua origine e, perchè no?, il suo scopo...

(1) - Sol 52153 visiteSempre dall'occhio attento del Dr Gianluigi Barca, un nuovo scintillìo metallico (le cui caratteristiche visive sono talmente peculiari da renderlo del tutto inconfondibile) caratterizza la distesa pietrosa di Gusev, non troppo lontano dall'area di landing del MER Spirit. Ed è proprio questo elemento (e cioè la non grande distanza esistente fra il Landing Site e la zona di ritrovamento di questi artefatti metallici) il quale, a voler essere estremamente pragmatici, ci potrebbe suggerire una loro origine non indigena. Si potrebbe trattare, infatti, di frammenti metallici (bars and bolts, ad esempio) i quali si sono staccati dal "guscio" in cui Spirit era rinchiuso all'atto del landing - un landing che, nonostante gli airbags e l'atmosfera ridotta, è comunque rude e periglioso (rough landing, come dicono alla NASA).
Questa è, insomma, l'idea suggeritaci dalla razionalità.
