ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-LunarAnalemma_richins_f.jpgMoon's analemma (New Mexico)163 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 13 Luglio 2005:"An analemma is an 8-like curve that is gotten when you mark the position of the Sun at the same time each day for 1 year. To imaging an analemma of the Moon it is necessary to understand that, on average, the Moon returns to the same position in the sky about 51' later each day. So, photographing the Moon 51' later on successive days, over one lunation (or Lunar month) it will trace out an analemma-like curve as the actual position of the Moon wanders compared to the average - due to the Moon's tilted and elliptical orbit. (...) Multiple exposure image required some digital manipulation, particularly to include thin crescent phases in daytime skies".

Moon and Companions~0.jpgMoon, Mars and Venus125 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 19 Ottobre 2005:"On another October 19, in 1899, a 17 year-old Robert Goddard climbed a cherry tree on a beautiful autumn afternoon in Worcester, Massachusetts. Inspired by H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" and gazing out across a meadow, young Goddard imagined it would be wonderful to make a device that had the possibility of ascending to Mars. Forever more he felt his life had a purpose and in the following years his diary entries record October 19th as "Anniversary Day", the anniversary of his ascent into the cherry tree. By 1926 he had designed, built, and flown the world's first liquid fuel rocket. Mars is just visible through the trees at the lower right in this dramatic sky view that also features the Moon and Venus - all visited by liquid fuel rockets constructed on principles developed by Goddard".

Earth.pngMother Earth54 visiteDalla Rubrica "NASA - Picture of the Day", del giorno 23 Novembre 2009:"Goodbye Earth!
Earlier this month, ESA's interplanetary Rosetta Spacecraft zoomed past the Earth on its way back across the Solar System.
Pictured above, Earth showed a bright crescent phase featuring the South Pole to the passing rocket ship. Launched from Earth in 2004, Rosetta used the gravity of the Earth to help propel it out past Mars and toward a 2014 rendezvous with Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Last year, the Robot Spacecraft passed asteroid 2867 Steins, and next year it is scheduled to pass enigmatic asteroid 21 Lutetia. If all goes well, Rosetta will release a probe that will land on the 15-Km diameter comet in 2014". MareKromium

Earth_and_Moon.gifMother and Daughter...112 visiteA NASA camera aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured a unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month.
The series of test images shows the fully illuminated dark side of the Moon that is never visible from Earth.
The images were captured by NASAs Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC), a four megapixel CCD camera and telescope on the DSCOVR satellite orbiting 1 MMs from Earth. From its position between the Sun and Earth, DSCOVR conducts its primary mission of real-time solar wind monitoring for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).MareKromium
