Inner_Worlds-jul8_westlake_f.jpgInner Worlds, in the Sunset...124 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 15 Luglio 2005:" Only Mars is missing from this reflective view of the major rocky bodies of the Inner Solar System. Captured on July 8th, the serene, twilight picture looks out over the Flat Tops Wilderness area from near Toponas, Colorado, USA and includes planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Earth's large natural satellite, the Moon. The Moon is in a young crescent phase about 3° above bright planet Venus. Forest fires contribute to a layer of smoke in Earth's sky that almost hides planet Mercury, still visible very near the horizon.
Just a week earlier Venus and Mercury were joined by Saturn, forming a notable grouping in the West also enjoyed by skygazers across planet Earth".

Iridescent_Cloud.jpgIridescent Cloud98 visiteCaption NASA:"Why would a cloud appear to be different colors? A relatively rare phenomenon known as "Iridescent Clouds" can show unusual colors vividly or a whole spectrum of colors simultaneously. These clouds are formed of small water droplets of nearly uniform size. When the Sun is in the right position and mostly hidden by thick clouds, these thinner clouds significantly diffract sunlight in a nearly coherent manner, with different colors being deflected by different amounts. Therefore, different colors will come to the observer from slightly different directions. Many clouds start with uniform regions that could show iridescence but quickly become too thick, too mixed, or too far from the Sun to exhibit striking colors.
This iridescent cloud was photographed above Boulder, Colorado last week".MareKromium

Jupiter_and_Saturn.jpgGreat Conjunction112 visiteCaption NASA:"It was time for their close-up. Two days ago Jupiter and Saturn passed a tenth of a degree from each other in what is known a Great Conjunction. Although the two planets pass each other on the sky every 20 years, this was the closest pass in nearly four centuries. Taken early in day of the Great Conjunction, the featured multiple-exposure combination captures not only both giant planets in a single frame, but also Jupiter's four largest moons (left to right) Callisto, Ganymede, Io, and Europa - and Saturn's largest moon Titan. If you look very closely, the clear Chilescope image even captures Jupiter's Great Red Spot. The now-separating planets can still be seen remarkably close - within about a degree -- as they set just after the Sun, toward the west, each night for the remainder of the year".

JustlikeIo.jpgJust like Io!99 visiteCaption NASA:"Volcano Tungurahua erupted spectacularly last year. Pictured above, molten rock so hot it glows visibly pours down the sides of the 5000-meter high Tungurahua, while a cloud of dark ash is seen being ejected toward the left.
Wispy white clouds flow around the lava-lit peak, while a star-lit sky shines in the distance.
The above image was captured last year (2006) as ash fell around the adventurous photographer. Located in Ecuador, Tungurahua has become active roughly every 90 years since for the last 1300 years. Volcano Tungurahua has started erupting again this year and continues erupting at a lower level even today".
MareKromium

Lenticular_Clouds.jpgLenticular Clouds' Cluster79 visiteCaption NASA:"Are those UFOs near that mountain?
No! They are Multilayered Lenticular Clouds.
Moist air forced to flow upward around mountain tops can create lenticular clouds. Water droplets condense from moist air cooled below the dew point, and clouds are opaque groups of water droplets. Waves in the air that would normally be seen horizontally can then be seen vertically, by the different levels where clouds form.
On some days the city of Seattle, Washington, USA, is treated to an usual sky show when lenticular clouds form near Mt. Rainier, a large mountain that looms just under 100 Km South-Eeast of the city.
This image of a spectacular cluster of lenticular clouds was taken last December (2008)".MareKromium
