Il paesaggio marziano che appare in questi frames relativi proprio ai primi movimenti compiuti dal Rover una volta 'emerso dalle sabbie', ci mostra delle dune che - almeno in apparenza - sembrano molto pi alte di quelle che eravamo abituati a vedere e la notevole profondit dei solchi lasciati dalle 6 ruote di Opportunity all'atto dell'uscita dall'insabbiamento (guardate il terzo frame di questa panoramica) ne sono una prova piuttosto evidente.
Non abbiamo stime attendibili circa il numero di Soles necessari (e salvo l'occorrere di nuovi imprevisti...) per raggiungere Erebus Crater, ma Vi terremo informati.

Getting the Rover out of the ripple, dubbed 'Purgatory Dune', required more than 5 weeks of planning, testing and carefully monitored driving. Opportunity used its NavCam to capture this look back at the ripple during Sol 491 (June 11, 2005), a week after the Rover drove safely onto firmer ground. The ripple that became a sand trap is about 1/3rd meter (one foot) tall and 2,5 mt (8 feet) wide".

Certo che, vista da questa angolazione, la duna 'Purgatorio' non sembra poi cos alta e cos diversa dalle altre che il Rover ha sempre (e tranquillamente) attraversato...
Notate, comunque, altre 3 curiosit: ci sono due ombre scure (davvero difficili da identificare), di forma quasi perfettamente circolare, sulla parte Dx del frame. Una si trova ad un metro circa dai pannelli solari del Rover (ed abbastanza netta e facile da vedere), l'altra la vedete a circa 1,5 metri di distanza dal grande solco di Dx lasciato dal Rover quando si insabbiato. C' poi, ad ore 3 del frame, quasi a ridosso del suo bordo Dx, un'altra depressione che ci sembra proprio un 'mini-cratere'.
Sulla natura e le possibili implicazioni relative all'et del mini-cratere, ci siamo gi pronunciati in passato; sulla nature delle due 'ombre circolari', in tutta onest, non sappiamo proprio cosa dire.
