This image shows the Circular Mark created where the tool exposed the interior of the rock Gagarin at a target called "Yuri". The circle is about 4,5 cm (1,8") in diameter. Gagarin is at the edge of a highly eroded, small crater that was informally named "Vostok" (after the Spacecraft that carried Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in the first human spaceflight, on April 12, 1961).
This image combines exposures taken through three different filters by Opportunity's PanCam (PanCam) on Sol 405 (March 14, 2005). The view is presented in Approximately True Color".MareKromium

OPP-SOL408-1N164419237EFF5100P1607L0M1.JPGLike waves, in an Ocean of Sand... - Sol 40899 visiteI Side-Winders, in fondo (ed un p 'romanticamente'...), sono come "onde, in un oceano di sabbia": basta guardare immagini come questa per rendersene conto.
Sullo sfondo, a ridosso dell'orizzonte, si intravede ancora il caratteristico profilo del Cratere Endurance.
Tuttavia, proprio osservando immagini come questa (e come quelle che seguono), si pu anche notare che i Side-Winders, in realt, non seguono "linee di movimento" completamente coerenti, come invece dovrebbe essere se fosse il solo vento a modellarne sagome e profili. Fateci caso, ma non guardate il paesaggio come "assieme", poich il dettaglio Vi sfuggirebbe.
Guardate un'onda per volta, seguendo una "cresta" per volta e, noterete, che questa 'incoerenza' - leggera, ma evidente - non solo una sensazione.
Dunque, se non (solo) il vento di Marte, chi "disegna" i Side-Winders???

Provate a notare, ancora una volta, come le 'linee di orientamento' dei Side-Winders non sano per nulla coerenti fra loro. Alla NASA ritengono che questo fenomeno sia collegato alla natura particolare (?) dei venti Marziani (una natura influenzata anche dalla tenue atmosfera del Pianeta Rosso); noi - con tutto il rispetto per la NASA ed i suoi Scienziati - siamo un p pi propensi a credere che i Side-Winders sano invece il prodotto della interazione e combinazione fra diversi elementi: alcuni atmosferici (come il vento), altri...di natura ignota. E comunque non dimenticate le profonde tracce del Rover sulla sabbia: noi non crediamo che sia ragionevolmente possibile che i venti di Marte, per impetuosi che sano, possano modellare una sabbia cos "compatta" come quella che vediamo nelle immagini che ci troviamo a commentare quotidianamente.
Sempre ammesso che le immagini sano genuine...
