OPP-SOL324-Sol324B_P2357_L257-B344R1.jpgApproaching the Heat-Shield (approx. true colors)110 visiteSiamo a circa 20 metri dallo Scudo Termico e questa panoramica rappresenta un ulteriore "sforzo interpretativo" della NASA nel tentativo di scoprire come un occhio umano vedrebbe quello che questo frame cerca di mostrarci. L'immagine stata ripresa intorno alle 13:20 MLT. Guardate Voi stessi e poi, se vorrete, diteci che cosa ne pensate di queste 'interpretazioni'.
Caption NASA originale:"This image from NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity shows the remains of the Rover's Heat-Shield, broken into two key pieces: the main piece on the left side and a broken-off flank piece near the middle of the image. The Heat-Shield impact site is identified by the circle of red dust on the right side of the picture. In this view, Opportunity is approx. 20 meters (66 feet) away from it.
In the far left of the image, a meteorite called "Heat Shield Rock," sits nearby; the Sun is reflecting off the silver-colored underside of the internal thermal blankets of the Heat-Shield".

Many rover-team engineers were taken aback when they realized the Heat-Shield had inverted, or turned itself inside out. The height of the pictured debris is about 1.3 meters (about 4.3 feet). The original diameter was 2.65 meters (8.7 feet), though it has obviously been deformed.
The fact that the Heat-Shield is now inside out makes it more challenging to evaluate the state of the thermal protection system that is now on the inside. In coming sols, Opportunity will investigate the debris with its microscopic imager". Lo Scudo Termico, quindi, a detta del Controllo Missione, durante la caduta su Marte si sarebbe "rivoltato come un guanto". Scusateci, ma fra le tante sciocchezze che la NASA, ogni giorno, ci offre su piatti d'argento, questa ci sembra davvero da incorniciare.
O forse colpa nostra che non riusciamo a capire quello che cercano di dirci...

Sol 326 (credits: Dr Marco Faccin)157 visiteMolto suggestiva questa immagine elaborata dal Dr Faccin in falsi colori, cos da meglio evidenziare il "grappolo" di "Bolle" mentre si sposta nei pressi dell'Heat-Shield.
Un fenomeno davvero curioso e, dal nostro punto di vista, difficile da affrontare e spiegare. Un vero peccato che la NASA non abbia speso neppure una parola al riguardo.MareKromium

OPP-SOL328-1P157306437EFF40A3P2578R3M1.jpgThe Heat-Shield and its surroundings (1) - Sol 328105 visiteEccoVi ora una sequenza di frames (relativi ai Soles 328 e 329) che rappresentano delle vedute ravvicinate dello Scudo Termico, dell'area circostante (ricoperta da innumerevoli frammenti metallici scintillanti) e del cratere prodottosi a seguito dell'impatto non frenato di questa componente della Navicella con il suolo di Meridiani Planum. Delle belle immagini, senza dubbio.

Cos, ad occhio, sembrano vedersi delle aree "scure" che assomigliano a delle bruciature (ma potrebbe anche trattarsi di un'illusione causata dal particolare filtro-colore usato). Voi che ne dite?!?
