SOL731-2N191257274EFFAN00P1922L0M1.jpgDj vu?!?... - Sol 731101 visiteForse colpa nostra se soffriamo di questa Sindrome del "Gi Visto" ma, a nostro avviso, sono svariate (o forse innumerevoli) le immagini in arrivo da Spirit le quali ci presentano impressionanti rapporti di somiglianza tra i diversi rilievi ripresi. Come dire? Sembra che, nella bizzarra delle rocce e delle pseudo-rocce di Marte vi sia, comunque, una "costante di fondo" la quale fa si che, a ben vedere, tutte le "bizzarre" sono - in ampia misura - ripetitive.
Certo, sono tutte coincidenze: nessuno di noi, infatti, sta maliziosamente pensando che, certo non tutti, ma forse una buona parte dei frames che ci mandano Spirit ed Opportunity (e che vengono pubblicati, specie negli ultimi 8/10 mesi) non sano altro che dei collage digitali - "cut and paste", insomma... - ricreati in laboratorio, a Pasadena o altrove, da qualche Tecnico della Fotografia il cui unico compito rivedere, correggere, riutilizzare e, soprattutto, nascondere e confondere.
No: nessuno di noi sta pensando questo.

SOL731-PIA06091.jpgMartian "Corals" (3D) - Sol 73162 visiteAdesso ci sentiamo davvero onorati: la seconda volta in soli tre giorni che la NASA "segue" le nostre "imbeccate" e si concentra su alcuni rilievi che Lunar Explorer aveva gi evidenziato...
Scherziamo naturalmente, ma la coincidenza talmente sorprendente e sfacciata che un pensierino serio al fatto che qualcuno, da Pasadena, ci stia leggendo...lo stiamo facendo!
Comunque sia: quelli che avevamo battezzato come "Coralli Marziani" la NASA dice che sono pietre laviche. Va bene: noi non abbiamo n la cultura n i mezzi (oltre che la credibilit) della NASA e quindi non ci sentiamo di aprire un contenzioso che non ci porterebbe da nessuna parte. Lava dicono e lava sia ma...una domandina: Gusev Crater un bacino da impatto (come la NASA stessa sostiene) o un antico vulcano spento? E se fosse un bacino da impatto, dov' allora il vulcano che avrebbe eruttato tutta questa lava?
Una domandina semplice-semplice: noi vogliamo credere alla NASA, ma la NASA - dato che noi non abbiamo la "Scienza" che hanno loro - deve anche aiutarci a capire e non pu limitarsi a dire (come faceva qualche Professore all'Universit) "... cos perch lo dico io e basta!...".
Giusto?!?

SOL731-PIA06101.jpgMartian "Corals" (false colors) - Sol 73173 visiteIn recent weeks, as NASA's MER Spirit has driven through the basin south of Husband Hill, it has been traversing mainly sand and dune deposits. This week, though, Spirit has been maneuvering along the edge of an arc-shaped feature called Lorre Ridge and has encountered some spectacular examples of basaltic rocks with striking textures. This PanCam image shows a group of boulders informally named "FuYi". These basaltic rocks were formed by volcanic processes and may be a primary constituent of Lorre Ridge and other interesting landforms in the basin.
Spirit first encountered basalts at its landing site 2 years ago, on a vast plain covered with solidified lava that appeared to have flowed across Gusev Crater. Later, basaltic rocks became rare as Spirit climbed Husband Hill. The basaltic rocks that Spirit is now seeing are interesting because they exhibit many small holes or vesicles, similar to some kinds of volcanic rocks on Earth. Vesicular rocks form when gas bubbles are trapped in lava flows and the rock solidifies around the bubbles. When the gas escapes, it leaves holes in the rock. The quantity of gas bubbles in rocks on Husband Hill varies considerably; some rocks have none and some, such as several here at FuYi, are downright frothy.

This lava may be the same as the basalt blanketing the plains of Spirit's Landing Site, or it may be different. The large size and frothy nature of the boulders around Lorre Ridge might indicate that eruptions once took place at the edge of the lava flow, where the lava interacted with the rocks of the basin floor. Scientists hope to learn more as Spirit continues to investigate these rocks.
As Earth approaches the Chinese New Year (The Year of the Dog), the Athena Science Team decided to use nicknames representing Chinese culture and geography to identify rocks and features investigated by Spirit during the Chinese New Year celebration period. In ancient Chinese myth, FuYi was the first great emperor and lived in the East. He explained the theory of "Yin" and "Yang" to his people, invented the net to catch fish, was the first to use fire to cook food, and invented a musical instrument known as the "Se" to accompany his peoples' songs and dances. Other rocks and features are being informally named for Chinese gods, warriors, inventors, and scientists, as well as rivers, lakes, and mountains.
Spirit took this image on the rover's Martian day, or sol, 731 (Jan. 23, 2006). This is an approximate true color rendering combining images taken with the Pancam's 750-nanometer, 530-nanometer and 430-nanometer filters.

Una roccia che "sembra" essere formata da due pezzi, diversi in colore e (probabilmente) in composizione, ma che si incastrano a perfezione, l'uno nell'altro, sino a formare un pezzo unico.
Una roccia complessa che, qualche tempo fa - forse un p ingenuamente - avevamo inserito nella Classe delle "rocce bi-colori" ma che oggi, dopo aver analizzato qualche decina di migliaia di frames, non possiamo far altro che classificare come "Anomala di Superficie" o "Falso Digitale" (Bad Tampering). E che dire dell'altra roccia cerchiata in Verde? Portate in frame sino al full-size e poi concentrateVi sulla porzione frontale della pseudo-roccia: c' una crepa dalla quale sta uscendo qualcosa? O si tratta - ancora una volta! - di un dettaglio impossibile, ossa un chiaro segno di manipolazione digitale del frame?
Potremmo andare avanti, lo sapete: in questo frame (come negli altri frames NavCam - Sol 732), di "curiosit" di questo tipo ce ne sono ancora. Ma a che servirebbe infierire? Cambierebbe qualcosa?...

SOL732-2P191347096EFFAN00P2555L2M1.jpgMartian "Corals" (1) - Sol 732100 visiteLe rocce che vengono riprese da Spirit mostrano - a nostro parere con una nitidezza davvero spettacolare - una interessantissima porzione della loro "Natura": non ci possibile dire se quelle curiose (e "coralline", almeno in apparenza) fattezze che le caratterizzano sano nell'in s delle rocce oppure se ci sia "qualcosa attaccato" ad esse. Un "qualcosa" che un tempo era "vivo" e che ora si completamente fossilizzato.
O magari un "qualcosa" che ancora - e magari solo in parte - "vivo"...
Ci che vediamo (anche se sappiamo che la vista pu ingannare) che c' effettivamente "qualcosa" di estraneo, almeno sulle rocce cerchiate in verde: "qualcosa" che non semplice "roccia", nel senso terrestre della parola, naturalmente...
E su questo non crediamo che possano esserci dubbi.
