OPP-SOL291-1N154005002EDN37MIP1580L0M1.jpgBig clouds over Endurance Crater (2)103 visiteSolo un piccolo commento: sono queste le fotografie che, sia per motivi sceintifici e sia per il piacere di guardare gli spettacoli che solo la Natura, alle volte, riesce ad offrire, ci piacerebbe (almeno una volta...) vedere a colori "veri" o "quasi veri". Purtroppo però i Tecnici NASA, nonostante i futuristici laboratori e le fantastiche strumentazioni di cui dispongono, non sembrano essere proprio capaci di "sviluppare" decentemente qualche fotografia a colori...
Che dite? Sarà un caso di incompetenza pura o magari si tratta di un divieto insuperabile?
Ai posteri l'ardua sentenza...

The view spans an arc from the east on the left to the southwest on the right.
Opportunity has observed differences in cloudiness from one sol to the next, a reminder that Mars, like Earth, has daily weather as well as longer-term seasonal changes.
The images that are combined to produce this view have been processed to remove geometrical distortion associated with the camera's 45-degree field of view. In addition, special image processing has been applied to the original images to enhance the clouds and make them visible across the entire mosaic. Glare from the Sun washed out the clouds on the left in the original images; this glare was removed. The rim of Endurance has been processed separately and merged back with the sky to better show the context".

OPP-SOL295-1N154375621EFF3800P1992R0M1.jpgThe edge of Endurance and the Sky above (1) - Sol 295114 visiteUna serie di immagini relative al bordo del cratere Endurance ci mostrano un quantitativo impressionante di dettagli: si va dalle misteriose "lastre" che, in alcuni punti, sembrano pavimentare le pareti di Endurance formando incastri perfettei, alle sempre più enigmatiche "sferule" di Meridiani Planum (che sono ovunque). Il sereno Cielo di Marte conferisce un particolare fascino a tutti i frames che, per essere apprezzati (e studiati) degnamente, devono essere aperti sino al loro full-size.
Buona passeggiata, dunque!...

OPP-SOL296-1N154464945EFF3853P1992L0M1_V1.jpgExtremely Unusual Surface Feature - Sol 296 (CTX frame + EDM - credits: Ivana Tognoloni)87 visiteDalla nostra bravissima Ivana Tognoloni, una (ennesima) "Bizzarrìa Marziana": da una roccia che giace nei pressi dell'Inner Rim del Cratere Endurance - la quale dovrebbe essersi fratturata piuttosto di recente e che mostra una forma sostanzialmente squadrata - sembra spuntare una sorta di "collo", alla cui estremità si distingue una sorta di "volto" (gli incavi degli occhi si vedono decisamente bene nell'EDM).
Purtroppo la qualità del frame è scadente e, onestamente, ci è difficile ipotizzare che ci si trovi davanti ad una curiosa Creatura Locale (anche se non possiamo neppure escluderlo al 100%).
Nel dubbio, Vi invitiamo ad osservare la - comunque - assoluta peculiarità del rilievo, il quale è decisamente inusuale, anche per Marte.
Difficile ipotizzare, in ogni caso, quale tipo di processo geologico (e/o quale tipologia di evento esterno) possa aver portato un macigno apparentemente assai compatto, parzialmente infossato (perciò stabile) e di forma squadrata (diremmo una sorta di "ferro da stiro") a spaccarsi in maniera non solo assai netta e precisa, ma anche tale da lasciare libera una simile "protuberanza".
Da notare, infine, che il dettaglio che abbiamo chiamato "collo" proietta un'ombra scura ed evidente al suolo; un'ombra che ci permette di escludere l'ipotesi per cui si possa trattare di una semplice illusione ottica causata da una prospettiva (angolo di ripresa) ingannevole.
