SOL633-2F182564883EFFAEVOP1110R0M1.jpgThe "needle" of rock is still there...

SOL633-HillaryOutcrop-AW.jpgHillary Outcrop (natural colors - elab. Aviation Week)54 visiteDa "NASA - Picture of the Day" del 13 Marzo 2007:"The Spirit rover attacked Mars again in 2005 September. What might look, above, like a military attack, though, was once again just a scientific one - Spirit was instructed to closely inspect some interesting rocks near the summit of Husband Hill. Spirit's Panoramic Camera captured the Rover's Instrument Deployment Device above as moved to get a closer look at an outcrop of rocks named Hillary. The Spirit rover, and its twin rover Opportunity, have now been exploring the red planet for over three years. Both Spirit and Opportunity have found evidence that parts of Mars were once wet".MareKromium

SOL634-2P182648204EFFAEVOP2385R4M1.jpgThe rocks of "Hillary Outcrop" (1) - Sol 63455 visiteNASA - Official Status Report:"Spirit is healthy and spent the week examining a rock called Hillary at the true summit of Husband Hill.
The first attempt to approach Hillary ended with a small pebble under Spirit's left front wheel, and the stability of the Rover was uncertain.
A set of wheel wiggles was performed to stabilize the Rover before deployment of the Robotic Arm (RA). Once the wheel was in good contact with the ground, Spirit began a conservative RA campaign that started with Mössbauer Spectrometer and Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer integrations".

SOL634-2P182650531EFFAEVOP2385R7M1.jpgThe rocks of "Hillary Outcrop" (2) - Sol 63459 visite"...Spirit began Sol 626 on a steep slope, with Hillary in the work area. However, the right front wheel did not look like it was in stable contact with the ground. A set of 3 wheel wiggles and a final move to steer the wheels against the slip direction reduced Spirit's overall tilt by 2°. After looking at several images, Rover "meshes" and "RSVP" simulations, the Planning Team was able to determine that the wheel was in a more stable area than it had been earlier. Rover "meshes" are 3D terrain maps created by Rover Team Members by "gluing" together multiple pieces of data from the Haz-Cams (up-close images), Nav-Cams (middle distance images) and PanCams (far-away images) to give a view of the Martian landscape for multiple tactical purposes. RSVP stands for Rover Sequencing and Visualization Program. The Rover Planners use this software tool to plan sequences of commands for driving and RA work. It can simulate the sequence, showing a model of the Rover superimposed on actual images of the Martian terrain".

SOL635-1-3D-PIA03062.jpgWhere should I go? - Sol 63555 visiteOriginal caption:"The first explorer ever to scale a summit on another planet, NASA's MER Spirit has begun a long trek downward from the top of Husband Hill to new destinations. As shown in this 180° panorama from East of the Summit, Spirit's earlier tracks are no longer visible. They are off to the West (to the left in this view). Spirit's next destination is Haskin Ridge, straight ahead along the edge of the steep cliff on the right side of this panorama".

SOL635-2P182748262EFFAF00P2386L7M1.jpgTime to go down... (1) - Sol 63554 visiteOriginal caption:"Spirit is healthy and has begun driving downhill from the top of Husband Hill toward the South Basin. Elevation maps produced from the PanCam imagery taken at and near the summit of Husband Hill showed a safe traverse (with vehicle tilts under about 20°) across ridge lines east of the Summit. These ridge lines (informally called "Haskin Upper Ridge" and "Haskin East Ridge") are the planned traverse paths for coming weeks. When possible, Spirit will drive each day".
