Spirit has traveled 498 meters (more than one-quarter of a mile) and ascended 20 meters (66 feet) above the Plains since arriving at the "Columbia Hills" on sol 156 (June 11, 2004). It covered much of that distance driving on only five of its six wheels.
The images used to make this approximately true-color mosaic were taken with Spirit's panoramic camera from about 300 meters (984 feet) away from the base of the hills, using filters centered at wavelengths of 600, 530 and 480 nanometers".

SOL150-GB-LXTT-IPF-1.jpgSomething's moving?!? - Sol 151 (Credits for the Research and the additional process.: Dr Gianluigi Barca/Lunar Explorer Italia/Italian Planetary Foundation)134 visiteA parere di chi scrive, il fatto che una buona parte dei "sassetti" visibili nei quattro frames (tutti ottenuti dalla Front HazCam del Rover Spirit durante il 151mo Sol di operazioni su Marte, Regione di Gusev Crater) sembra che cambiano posizione tra uno scatto e l'altro, è/può essere (a ragion veduta) considerato una conseguenza sia di un inevitabile "shift prospettico" (il Rover si è mosso - è avanzato, di fatto), sia della deformazione grandangolare tipica di questo tipo di immagini. Ma alcuni "movimenti" e "cambi" di contesto, sempre ad umile parere di chi scrive, non sono spiegabili con questo approccio (per quanto sensato e pragmatico esso possa essere).
Dunque possiamo dire che sulla Superficie di Marte "qualcosa" si muove, relativamente, alla svelta? No, questo no. Ma che tutto sia "still" (immobile), come dice la NASA, e che gli unici movimenti superficiali devono necessariamente essere ricondotti (SEMPRE!) alla verificazione di attività eoliche di grossa entità (passaggio di Dust Devils, ad esempio, o altre correnti d'aria violentissime e radenti il suolo), a parer mio non pare un approccio completamente corretto, nè realistico. Poi, come sapete bene, in questa Materia, la "speculazione" - purchè informata e pragmatica - la fa e la farà da "padrona" ancora - credo e temo - per moltissimo tempo... MareKromium

SOL151-2F139776571EFF62FOP1201L0M1.jpgMoving "Rocks" (1) - Sol 15153 visiteStimolati dal nostro caro Amico e Socio, Lorenzo Leone, abbiamo deciso di pubblicare i 4 frames (tutti Front HazCam, due relativi all'occhio Dx e due relativi all'occhio Sx) dai quali è stata estrapolato il collage che ci mostra il movimento (apparente o reale?) di due sassetti (vedi la Sez. Mars Spirit Anomalies).
In realtà, come lo stesso Sig. Leone sottolinea, "il movimento dei due sassi - laddove reale ed effettivo - deve essere movimento di entrambi, poichè i punti di riferimento attorno ad essi, cambiano radicalmente".
E' vero: giudicate Voi stessi e, per Vostra informazione, sappiate che i 4 frames cono stati ottenuti fra le 14:21:45 e le 14:23:18 MLT.
Inutile dire che sono i frames come questi a suscitare, in tutti noi, un grande sconcerto: che cosa stiamo guardando, realmente?!?

SOL151-THE FORT-2P139777245EFF6300P2362R1M1.jpgThe "Martian Mound": a very unusual rock formation (1)159 visiteC'è qualcosa che ha attratto la nostra attenzione in questa immagine: è un dettaglio scuro, situato circa a mezza altezza della collina, il quale sembra stagliarsi dal resto del panorama e richiedere un'autonoma attenzione. Si tratta, come vedremo meglio avvicinandoci, di una formazione rocciosa che presenta delle caratteristiche assolutamente peculiari. Avevamo pensato all'inizio - visto anche il punto in cui sorge - di chiamarla "The Fort", ma poi abbiamo optato per un nome un pò meno immaginifico ed un pò più realista.
L'area che state guardando (e che ritroveremo più avanti, per commentarla insieme, in tanti altri frames) l'abbiamo battezzata "The Martian Mound" (Il Terrapieno Marziano).
Ciò che possiamo dirVi subito è che la "stranezza" di questa formazione rocciosa devono averla notata anche i Tecnici della NASA i quali hanno ordinato alle fotocamere di Spirit di scattare tantissime fotografie.
Purtroppo, dopo le foto, è sceso il silenzio e quindi proveremo noi a fare qualche commento.
