The RAT on NASA's Spirit Rover ground off the surface of a patch 45,5 mm (such as 1,8") in diameter on the rock called Adirondack during Spirit's 34th Sol on Mars, Feb. 6, 2004. The hole is 2,65 mm (0,1") deep, exposing fresh interior material of the rock for close inspection with the Rover's MI and 2 spectrometers on the robotic arm. This image was taken by Spirit's PanCam, providing a quick visual check of the success of the grinding. The RAT's on both Mars Exploration Rovers were supplied by Honeybee Robotics, New York (N.Y.)".
Però: anche la NASA fa pubblicità, e la fa direttamente a margine dei commenti tecnici relative alle attività dei Rovers! Che ne dite? Secondo Voi questo 'spot' è un cosa normale ed accettabile o non era il caso (nè il momento, nè il luogo)?

SOL036-2N129562444EFF0361P1635L0M1.jpgPanorama - Sol 3672 visiteIn questo frame, relativo al Sol 36 di Spirit, troviamo un panorama molto interessante in quanto vengono ripresi ed immortalati i primi "punti caldi" di Marte. Nel cerchio blu (numero 2), le rocce Sashimi (accanto alla quale abbiamo individuato quella che, a nostro parere, potrebbe essere una minuscola conchiglia - che abbiamo battezzato "Ginny") e Sushi (si tratta della roccia che presenta un foro rettangolare sul suo fianco e che tanto ha fatto agitare il Prof. Hoagland & Co. circa la sua presunta origine NON naturale).
Nel cerchio rosso (1), invece, vedete Adirondack.
Sullo sfondo, alla Vostra Sx, la depressione colma di polvere chiamata Sleepy Hollow e le tracce dei rimbalzi degli airbags che contenevano il Rover.

The wavy feature called a "bedform" is created when material is transported and deposited by some process - in this case wind. The Team is interested in the fact that the crests of this and most other bedforms they've observed through orbital data and Rover images are all parallel to each other, indicating uniform wind direction".
Dunque, quelle dunette sinuose che noi chiamiamo Side-Winders, alla NASA le chiamano "Bedform" e le ritengono un frutto esclusivo dell'azione dei venti. Noi riteniamo, sia sulla base dei dati forniti dalla NASA (e relativi alla composizione base - rocce e pietrisco - e tessitura della superficie di Marte), sia in base alle immagini che ci arrivano quotidianamente o quasi, che il vento abbia un ruolo MINIMO (se pure ha un ruolo) nella creazione dei Bedforms (o Side-Winders).

This event is similar solar eclipse seen on Earth in which our Moon crosses in front of the Sun. The animation is made up of images taken by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on sol 39 of its mission. Deimos passed slightly closer to the center of the Sun than expected, and arrived about 30 seconds early. This observation will help refine our knowledge of the orbit and position of Deimos".
