OPP-SOL086-1NN085ILF14CYP07P1983R000M1-B086R1_br2.jpgFram Crater: a small crater on the way to Endurance - Sol 8580 visiteUn piccolo cratere, di fatto molto simile al Viking Crater (il quale verrà incrociato da Opportunity una volta fuori da Endurance e sulla via di Erebus e Victoria), si trova sulla strada del Rover mentre si dirige verso quella che sarà la sua 'casa' per oltre 6 mesi. Suggestivo lo sfondo, con Endurance Crater già ben visibile a Dx e molto interessante l'interno di questo piccolo cratere: si possono intravedere, infatti, delle fitte - ma sottili e basse - 'onde di sabbia' sul tipo di quelle che vedremo all'interno di Endurance e di Viking stessi.
Questo il commento NASA all'immagine:"The camera acquired the images at approx. 14:28 Local Solar Time - such as 06:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time - on April 20, 2004.
The view is from the Rover's new location, a region dubbed 'Fram Crater' located some 450 mt (approx. 0,3 mi) from Eagle Crater and roughly 250 mt (approx. 820 feet) from Endurance Crater".

The nature of the outcrop material seen in this location is visibly disrupted and some areas also have layering that may be distinctive from what scientists saw previously inside Eagle Crater. Opportunity is traveling toward a large crater dubbed Endurance but it may return to Fram for further analysis of its rocks and soils if time permits. Nota: Opportunity NON ritornerà su Fram Crater, come ipotizzato nella caption NASA. Il motivo (o i motivi) è/sono ignoto/i, ma di sicuro non riguardano una eventuale "mancanza di tempo".

OPP-SOL088-2-P2285_Fram_L257-B120R1.jpgFram Crater in approximate true colors (2) - Sol 8895 visiteA parte l'indiscutibile qualità visiva (in termini di risoluzione e definizione) di questo frame, noi ci soffermiamo su un semplice punto - per altro così evidente che il costante silenzio NASA al riguardo ci lascia davvero molto stupiti -: ma se il colore "approssimativamente vero" di Meridiani è quello che vediamo in questo (e non solo...) frame, allora Marte, più che rosso, diremmo che è un Pianeta "verdastro" (almeno in questa regione).
