Ora pensiamo che sarete d'accordo con noi non solo nell'essere prudenti nelle valutazioni (queste immagini dicono tanto e non dicono niente allo stesso tempo), ma anche nello stigmatizzare il fatto che, in un lavoro gi molto difficile quale quello che noi cerchiamo di fare, la NASA, con le sue immagini (perennemente o quasi...) ambigue e con i suoi ineffabili silenzi che seguono ogni possibile domanda, non certo di grande aiuto...

Saturn-W00011214.jpgIn the darkness...65 visiteUn'immagine splendida e suggestiva: Mimas, una delle lune pi piccole di Saturno, splende nella notte e tiene "compagnia", con la sua luce, agli Anelli del Gigante, anch'essi luminosissimi (forse anche perch l'immagine leggermente sovraesposta). Vi segnaliamo, cerchiata in bianco, una interessante Anomala: potrebbe trattarsi di un raggio cosmico (teoria NASA), oppure di un difetto dell'immagine. Oppure si potrebbe anche trattare, come sembra elaborando l'immagine dopo averla portata sino al full-size, di un oggetto luminoso (di enormi dimensioni) in transito nello Spazio di Saturno. In questo caso specifico, quest'ultima ipotesi ci pare la pi (incredibilmente...) credibile.

Brightness measurements from different angles have shown Saturn's rings to be about 1 Km thick, making them many times thinner, in relative proportion, than a razor blade. This thinness sometimes appears in dramatic fashion during an image taken nearly along the Ring-Plane. The Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn has captured another shot that dramatically highlights the Ring's thinness. The above artistic looking image was taken early last month in infrared polarized light. If alone in space, the unlit part of Saturn would be much darker. Reflection of light off of moons (...) and the billions of small particles in Saturn's Rings, however, gives the giant space orb an unusual glow, an effect highlighted in polarized light.
