Timeline-PIA07142_modest.jpgThe "Timeline" of the Universe...125 visiteThis artist's conception illustrates the decline in our universe's birth-rate over time. When the universe was young, massive galaxies were forming regularly, like baby bees in a bustling hive. In time, the universe bore fewer and fewer "offspring," and newborn galaxies (white circles) matured into older ones more like our own Milky Way (spirals). Previously, astronomers thought that the universe had ceased to give rise to massive, young galaxies, but findings from NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer suggest that may not be the case. Surveying thousands of nearby galaxies with its highly sensitive ultraviolet eyes, the telescope spotted three dozen that greatly resemble youthful galaxies from billions of years ago. In this illustration, those galaxies are represented as white circles on the right, or "today" side of the timeline.

Timeline.jpgThe Timeline of the Universe65 visiteThe Universe is expanding gradually, now, but its initial expansion was almost impossibly rapid as it likely grew from quantum scale fluctuations in a trillionth of a second. In fact, this cosmological scenario - known as "Inflation" - is now reported to be further quantified by an analysis of 3 years of data from the WMAP Spacecraft. WMAP's instruments detect the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation - such as the afterglow light from the early Universe. WMAP's amazing success in exploring the first trillionth of a second and favoring specific inflationary scenarios, lies in its ability to make unprecedented, precise measurements of the properties of the Microwave Background. The subtle properties are distilled from conditions in the early Universe and related to its first moments of existence. Schematically, this diagram traces the 13,7 BY (plus a trillionth of a second) history of the Universe from the quantum scale to the formation of stars, galaxies, planets and WMAP itself.

Transits-Kepler-NASA.jpgSic Transit(s) Gloria Kepleri150 visiteCaption NASA:"Using the prolific planet hunting Kepler Spacecraft, astronomers have discovered 1235 Candidate Planets orbiting other stars since the Kepler Mission's search for Earth-like worlds began in 2009.
To find them, Kepler monitors a rich Starfield to identify Planetary Transits by the slight dimming of starlight caused by a Planet crossing the face of its Parent Star. In this remarkable illustration, all of Kepler's Planet Candidates are shown in transit with their parent stars ordered by size from top left to bottom right. Simulated stellar disks and the silhouettes of transiting planets are all shown at the same relative scale, with saturated star colors.
Of course, some stars show more than one planet in transit, but you may have to examine the picture at High Resolution to spot them all. For reference, the Sun is shown at the same scale, by itself below the top row on the right.
In silhouette against the Sun's disk, both Jupiter and Earth are in transit".MareKromium

UFO-1-PIA07250.jpgFar distant galaxies and a UFO in front of the GALEX telescope! (1)81 visiteCaption NASA originale:"Galaxies aren't the only objects filling up the view of NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer. Since its launch in 2003, the space telescope (originally designed to observe galaxies across the universe in ultraviolet light) has discovered a festive sky blinking with flaring and erupting stars, as well as streaking asteroids, satellites and space debris. One such streaking object - possibly an Earth-orbiting satellite - can be seen here flying across the telescope's sight.
This probable satellite appears during the last 5' of a 13,5' observation. It looks elongated because each picture frame containing the moving object is 19" long. Faint ghost images on either side of the source are detector artifacts caused by the object's extreme brightness. These 'Bonus Objects' are being collected in to Public Catalogues for other Astronomers to study".
Bonus Objects. Un nuovo modo di classificare gli UFO? Un frame intrigante ed un commento ufficiale asciutto, ma possibilista: qualcosa si muove?!?
