Conoscendo la massa di entrambi i Corpi (il cui rapporto è di circa 81 a 1) e dato che l'attrazione è inversamente proporzionale alla distanza, si deduce che in un punto situato 9 volte più vicino alla Luna che alla Terra i due Corpi esercitano sull'oggetto forze eguali e contrarie. A che distanza si trova questo punto (detto Punto Neutro)?

The planet, illustrated in the above drawing, had its light detected by comparing the brightness of only the parent star, when the planet was behind the star, to the light emitted when both the planet and its parent star were visible. The Earth-orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope made the observation in infrared light, where the intrinsic glow of the planet outshines the light it reflects from its central star. The direct observation of light allowed a measurement of both the temperature and size of the planet: HD 209458b. Planet HD 209458b was confirmed to be larger than expected for its mass and on an orbit around its parent star that was unexpectedly close to a circle".

Evidence for this possible belt was discovered by NASA's SST when it spotted warm dust around the star, presumably from asteroids smashing together.
The view starts from outside the belt, where planets like the one shown here might possibly reside, then moves into to the dusty belt itself. Collisions between asteroids replenish the dust in the Asteroid Belt, making it detectable to SST.
The alien belt circles a faint, nearby star called HD 69830 located 41 LY away in the constellation Puppis. Compared to our own Solar System's Asteroid Belt, this one is larger and closer to its star - it is 25 times as massive and lies just inside an orbit which is equivalent to the one of Venus while our Asteroid Belt circles between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
Because Jupiter acts as an outer wall to our asteroid belt, shepherding its debris into a series of bands, it is possible that an unseen planet is likewise marshalling this belt's rubble. Previous observations using the radial velocity technique did not locate any large gas giant planets, indicating that any planets present in this system would have to be the size of Saturn or smaller".

Fu una lunghissima prolusione e alla fine, dopo aver a lungo e faticosamente peregrinato intorno a questi astrusi principii, ci chiese se, prendendo spunto da quanto aveva detto lui, noi ci fossimo fatti una qualche idea.
Magari quella di un "Nuovo Dogma", da aggiungere agli altri.
Io alzai la mano.
Il Professore sorrise, si avvicinò e mi chiese se avevo pensato bene, prima di propinare al resto della classe un possibile "Nuovo Dogma". Gli dissi che ci avevo pensato benissimo, e parlai: "credo - dissi - che il Dogma di cui lei si è dimenticato di parlarci attenga la "Inverificabilità" di tutti gli altri Dogmi".
Il Professore rimase completamente inerte, come folgorato..."
"E poi? Che cosa successe?"
"Successe che mi diede uno schiaffo e mi buttò fuori dall'aula...".
