Approaching Rhea (2)
|
In the outpost of the Saturn System the moon Rhea waits for the Cassini spacecraft. On Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, the spacecraft will come within 500 Km (about 310 miles) of its surface. Rhea's cratered surface looks in some ways similar to our own Moon, or the planet Mercury. But make no mistake: Rhea's icy exterior would quickly melt if this moon were brought as close to the Sun as Mercury.
N00043271.jpg was taken on November 26, 2005, and received on Earth on November 27, 2005. The camera was pointing toward Rhea that, at the time, was distant approximately 172.530 Km from the spaceship. The image was taken using the UV1 and CL2 filters.
