"Except this supernova seems unusually bright," Tom Cook exclaimed.

"It was even brighter," announced Bill Gaynor, who had just arrived.
"I didn't go to bed. I was awake until it rose—in the east, about an hour ago."
"What is it now?"
"I'd say about minus 8" (25 times brighter than Venus).

A whistle blew in the common room.

"More like a damned quasar than a supernova!" someone muttered.

This observation was followed by a long silence, broken by Almond.

"Which would explain something I've been damned worried about."
"What's this about, Dr. Almond?" asked Gaynor, his eyes red from lack of sleep.

"The fact is, that thing's location is exactly the same as the Galactic Center.

It's completely obvious, isn't it? The center of the Galaxy has exploded."

As Almond made this statement, his deep voice had a gravelly tone."

E' del tutto ovvio, no? Il centro della Galassia è esploso".
