Martian colors and Martian dust (Sol 23 - Sol 346)

In the later image, the surfaces have become only mildly dusty compared to shortly after landing. Both images represent the PANCAM team's best current attempt at generating true-color views of what these scenes would look like if viewed by a human on Mars". Dunque - ricapitolando -: mentre Spirit ha subito e sta subendo in maniera "sensibile" (anche se non dovrebbero esserci pericoli seri nell'immediato) le conseguenze dell'accumulo di polveri sottili sui propri pannelli solari, Opportunity è messa molto meglio. Noi crediamo che la causa di questa differenza sostanziale stia nel fatto che Spirit è rimasto per oltre un anno esposto costantemente ai venti di Marte (portatori delle polveri) mentre Opportunity, per mesi, si è "protetta" scendendo all'interno del Cratere Endurance dove, evidentemente, la circolazione d'aria (e di polveri) è stata decisamente minore.
